Ok, so I had an idea in an english exam!

when this post started i thought you was wanting a submerged rig within oil and a fish tank on the side, obviously if u have a water cooled rig then the rig is completely out of any oil and it would mean the fish tank is completely seperate from the rig.... so why go to all that length , when u can just sit a goldfish bowl infront of the rig for the illusion

Pretty sure someone on these boards has done it before and theres a huge thread somewhere on the technical details including fish wellbeing.

EDIT: Can't for the life of me find the thread tho.

Remember that, wasn't there also someone who wanted to plumb his WC into his WC, so that the loop recieved fresh cold water everytime the cistern was flushed?

There was also another guy who plumbed up his RAD outside his house and ran piping to his PC.

not sure it works using the same abreviations for mutiple meanings....

was it his toilet to the water cooled sytem in his rig.... you said wc to wc ....

i normally come on forums to unwind and not have to think that much hehe

not sure how on earth it would work, unless the water cooled system had a ballcock inside to bung the outlet pipe up once the toilet systern had finished pumping water into it,

i think it would be easier just connecting a water mains pipe to the wc rig and having an exit pipe permenently watering your garden or something.....
though i can imagine why that sort of setup isn't out in the shops to buy lol, think the water companies would be perminently shouting out there's water shortages.

personally i'd prefer having a nitrogen cooled rig if i had the money... i just had a thought, is there anything in the world that actually gets colder as more heat surrounds it besides some of the women out there... (only joking.. i know that was sort of sexist, but couldn't resist it)
joking apart now, is there such a material that responds like that in the world?

There are phase change systems (used to be called peltiers) that essentially electrically suck all the heat from one side and dump it out on the other, so when it is working right, the CPU side will be ice cold and the heatsink side will be roasting. :)

And the toiletcooling idea never made it past the myriad of rofls and fails.

I think that the fishtank-PC idea is pretty awesome to be honest...

It might be a little fiddly to keep fish and PC maintainence separate, but I don't see any real problems. I say go for it, and post many pics :D

first of all - lets clarify 1 thing, submerged rigs only work in oil not water, therefore to have a rig within a fishtank and have fish swimming around it would mean 2 tanks (1 within another tank) the rig could work from having it water cooled but if your thinkin of having the water cycle round that is from the fish swimming tank then think of the amount of fish pooh and the fish food that didn't get eaten clogging your water cooling system up.
if you had air cooled then i doubt you'll have a rig thats opperational for long periods of time due to over heating....

The only benefit you would have is getting away from the missus for the time spent creating it, it's not really the project you want if you're wanting a a system thats functional, if you have the money then yes it's great for an ornament that sits on the side till you have guests come round, other than that i'd spend the time/money creating something thats actually useful aswell as fancy to look at.

yes it's definately been done a lot of times before, altho i've only only seen 1 picture with the fish aquarium rocks etc inside... don't know if any fish were in but i doubt it,

i think it all started with a guy submerging his rig in the oil to have it cooled that way but he claimed that it was only functioning for approx 1 full day before all the oil was starting to get too warm to actually cool the rig, it just keeps warming the oil up to the point of slowly cooking your machine
