Down under mate!
Just a quick question on installation, the card comes with 2 x power connections on the end of the card,

Should I use the power splitter thats comes with the card and connect it too one power cable from my PSU or should I ignore the splitter and connect 2 seperate power cables from my PSU?

Hope that makes sense,

Thundy.

I’ve got a GeCube AGP X1950Pro and just used 2 Molex PSU cables with the splitter as my PSU doesn’t have the power leads, It will be safe which ever way you do it :)

I have the same card and was advised by this very forum that if possible you should use 2 seperate power cables coming directly from your PSU!!

Connect 2 seperate molex connectors.

If you use the splitter you may not supply it with enough juice and it will underclock itself.

Ok have installed the card and used 2 separate power cables and ran a couple of benchies which don't look too good tbh

bench 03 was 12546 now 14338
bench 05 was 5982 now 6745 <------ cannot be right

Also when I 1st turn my pc the dell logo screen the colours are wrong but when i get to xp loding screen and desktop everything is fine and dandy??

no artifacts in both benchies,

Thundy.

Dell logo being wrong will be nothing to worry about, i used to get the same on my old DFi board with my x1800, used to be about 4 colours or summit, so i turned the pic off, was nothing anyway, just a screen saying DFi to denote what the mobo was. :p

ill be interested in this. im considering getting a x1950pro agp too, but would like to know how it performs in games such as tombraider legend and marvel ultimate alliance with next gen content enabled in trl and that advanced lighting option enabled in mua.

thats odd. although the x1850xt does have 16 pipes and the x1950pro does have 12 pipes, so hmmm

To be fair aside from that very expensive 7800GS+ card, the x850xt-pe has ruled the roost as far as AGP is concerned until the x1950pro showed up. It is approximately 7600GT speed so unless you are running at high res/AA/AF (which 3dmark isn't) I wouldn't expect a huge gain from the x1950pro.

Maybe try a few other game benchmarks - your memory may be failing you about the CSS score on your old card.

Regarding the power molexes, where possible you should give each connector it's own molex. However, with some PSUs when running a lot of drives, fans etc this may not always be practical. So share each one with a fan if necessary but definitely not one molex split into two for the Gfx card.

I compared my score online against other scores on the futuremark website with similer spec machines and it looks about right.I think that maybe my p4 3.2ghz old grandad mobo is holding me back ,If i increased my 1.5gig of ram to 2 gig would that make any difference?

On the subject of psu I have used 2 separate power cables going into my card.

If my PSU did not have enough grunt would that cause my benchmark scores to be lower than norm?

It could be your CPU keeping the scores back as you say. A P4 3.2 is not that fast a CPU. Ram would probably make some games run smoother if you added more, but 1.5GB should be ok (unless its not running in dual channel? Im not that up with Intel side of things). As for the power issue, if the card wasnt getting enough it would likely either artifact or not run at all; shouldnt affect 3Dmark scores.

Well this is strange I have noticed a couple of times since installing the card that my pc takes longer to shutdown. Tonight turned the pc and all i had was a black screen  the pc was running but just no screen!I ended up having to keep my finger on the power button and the pc shutdown.Turned it on and it booted ok.Turned it on again and I could here the GFX card fan spinning big time and again no picture.

I have just opened the case and double checked everything is seated properly and insured both cable are connected.

Going back to the 1st black screen problem on booting the pc up I had a warning message saying windows had not shut down properly and gave me a list of option like normall boot, or last good boot etc.

Also I have had a look under my system event viewer and had a couple of red x errors one was for DCOM and one was for ati2mtagThis is with the 7.7 cats installed.

Any thoughts

Thundy.

I could really do with some help guys anyone got any thoughts on what the problem may be?

Is it worth changing my graphic drivers?

Thundy.

sounds liek a driver issue have you tried any other sets ? newest is notallways best in my opinion. i got a saphire 256 1950pro got it pretty much launch day i used to run it on the drivers they supplied on *** disc wich were a modified set, then i upadted tp 7.3 and actually saw a performance decrease :( gonna try some newer ones soon.

X1950Pro has only 12 pipes  surly you mean his X850 ;)

x1950pro is deffo 12 pipes, my x1900xt is 16 pipes, and the old x850xt was 16 pipes too.

only difference is that the x19 series have 3 shaders per pipe. but i doubt that makes much difference since the benchmarks i saw back when the x1900xt came out there was not much difference between the x1900xt and the x1800xt (which is also 16 pipes).
