Brought a new gfx card x1900xt and installed it and something in my pc went pop. when pressing the on button on my psu my cpu fan would start and my case fans. weird as this normally happens, i know ive got power to my mobo as the green light is on but nothing else happens, i thought i have somehow blown the week psu i had, PAXPower ???wattage, cant remember now. got a new psu enrmax liberty 620w very happy with it but still when all connected i get power to the mouse but nothing else? what have i broken and what can i do to test it, i cant but stuff in another rig as this is my only one.

im in the "get a bloke out to fix it" zone and im not happy. gonna cost me a fortune.

Tried your old GFX card back in?

Failing that... i'd try another PSU and if that doesnt work... time for a new mobo :/

i had a similar problem, hit 'on' fans would spin up and lights would come on for but only a second

turned out one of my hdds was playing up, as soon as i unpluged it it fired up, plug it back in same problem, anyway it was replaced by RMA

what im tring to say is unplug all unessentials, all hdds, cd drives, floppy, any cathodes or extra fans, and see if it will start with just the mobo, powered up, try your old gfx again?

have tried old gfx card same thing, new psu already got and same thing, havent tried stripped down. ive reset cmos, but nothing. not anything fron the case on button at all but i get lights on my mouse when i turn the psu on.

very annoying

As said above mate take everything off to see if you can get it just to the bios screen. If not mobo i reckon :(

rotters - Are you sure you have wired the Power Supply to the M/board correctly?

I accidentally re wired the connectors to the M/board wrongly and my fans spun, Power Supply came on for a second and then went off.

Re attached them, and it works :)

Steve :)

Also, unplug everytihng, like ram, gfx, hdd's all case fans, just CPU, CPU fan and mobo and see what it makes of that, then work your way up if it works. failing that erm, new mobo probably :(

If your mouse lights up when the PSU is connected, without turning on the PC, then it's looking like the mobo is borked.

There's no way any power should be getting to the mouse before you press the on button, and the mobo starts it's post.

Many modern PC's have a "wake on mouse" or "wake on keyboard" option which means the mouse/keyboard have power whenever the PC is on at the mains/at the back of the PSU (an option you can normally turn off in the bios or by a jumper).

Rotters, I would follow the suggestion of disconnecting the drives etc.

Also double check all the PSU connections to the motherboard and videocard.

Yes, I know about "wake on mouse" etc, but even with that enabled, surely the mouse should not be lit up when the PC is turned off?

If the power is on at the plug very common for USB devices to remain powered and as Werewolf said, if board has wake on xxx those wake on devices have to be. The mobo itself is always powered when the plug is on, regardless of settings or power switch (except the PSU power switch which will cut power).

A longshot but did you accidently unplug/knock out the tiny 2-pin power connector on the mobo which connects to the case 'on' switch maybe?

Just a thought as this is usually close to the graphics card that you replaced

Looking like a new mobo IMO - I had a sudden power loss last week, bought a new PSU, no change, then replaced mobo and 'bingo' PC was reborn

Good luck

Devices having power is one thing, but being lit-up is not normal when the PC is turned off.

I just setup "power on by keyboard" (spacebar), and "power on by Mouse" in my BIOS (Asus P5W DH) and both devices start my PC fine, but neither were lit when the PC is off.
I tried turning the PSU on/off and only the green mobo light goes on/off, the mouse and kb do not light up.

It depends on the mouse though - the PC has to provide power to the mouse all the time for it to work with "wake on...", with the Intellimice that could (and did with my dad's NF7-S) lead to it being lit up when the machine was "off".

ok so the saga continues, same problem, i RMA'd the x1900xt and i still get one long and 2 short post warning beeps and get no further these just loop until i reset and it does the same.

any ideas please?

had the same problem, thankfully with my old PC, mobo light on, all connected correctly, pressed 'on' button, and the rear 80mm fan and the CPU fan twitched, and then it went totaly dead till i turned of the PSU at the back, and turned it back on, and then the exact same thing happened, it was probably the mobo, but i didnt bother to check, it was old and crap, and i'd just got all my 'new' stuff, so i binned to old rubbish.

RMA the mobo if possible, if not buy a new one, or borrow one from a mate/existing computer to check if it is causing the problem. thats all i can think it could be, good luck
