old canon lenses for EOS?

need advice as new to photography

ive got the chance of a large amount of older canon lenses for between 10 and 30 quid.

willthey fit my 60D? and if not will i need an adaptor

worth while?

Are they all genuine Canon FD lenses or third party FD lens?

How many are there and what lenses. Some of them may be worth quite a bit of money -remember Canon made L series FD lenses too (has the red ring around the lens body the same as the EF lenses).

As for using them - yes you can get Adaptors for them but if I recall you might not be able to stop down the aperture due to no electrical contact between the lens and your 60D.

The other thing you could use them for is using them in a macro capability. You can get adaptors that mount filter thread to filter thread - I've seen some amazing macro shots with an old lens reverse mounted onto a new AF lens.

depends what the old lenses are..

its certainly not impossible to get good shots on older lenses for example ive got some old olympus OM mount lenses and an adapter to EF and get some good results. as above on those lenses i have only manual control over the aperture and focus but thats no big deal.

OM to EF? when i got mine (granted a while ago) there were tonnes on ebay

edit - still loads on ebay.. (search "OM to EOS")

The Official Canon FD to EOS adapter is extremely rare. They used high quality correcting optics and had the effect of a mild teleconverter. Relatively few were made and they were intended for professionals to allow them to migrate to the new EOS mounts and bodies. They command very high prices on the second hand market.

There are however third party options available which are relatively cheap.
