I did some tests today on some new servers we bought, compared them to our oldest ones.

1M, single thread PI test

Xeon E5-2680, released Mar 2012, price $1723
Xeon Silver 4208, released Apr 2019, price $417

drum roll.....

They both performed exactly the same, completed in 11.5 seconds.

Exiting stuff huh :o

Super Pi not exactly representative of wider work load heh - with the slightly lower clock speed but improved IPC versus faster clock speed but less efficient IPC it probably isn't surprising otherwise very similar specs on paper.
