Hi - like the title says - have an old mother board/case etc which works,
but wonder if anyone has any recommendations on a new CPU and Ram
to give it a bit more speed etc. Its for a Logging software to use
in Ham Radio.

Sorry forgot to add it is a GeForce6100PM-M2 v7.0

Don't want to spend a fortune on it as it might be more economical
to buy a cheap newer system.

Thanks for looking
kind regards

Unfortunately that motherboard is quite a few years old, things have moved on a lot (e.g. that takes DDR2 memory - we are now on DDR5 memory!).

Depending on what CPU and RAM you currently have (e.g. post the result of speccy above), it may be possible that you could source some second hand upgrades, but in all honesty, you've certainly had your moneys worth from it, so I'd be looking at a new build (or a newer base unit).

Depending on what you budget is, someone will recommend a self build using components from OcUK (probably around £300-£400 for a starting point).

If your budget is on the lower side, then Ex-corporate PCs on ebay are a good starting point - things like Dell Optiplex, HP Elitedesk/Prodesk, and various Lenovo machines are worth looking at.

E.g. just as an example, something like a Used Dell Optiplex 7060 can be had for around £150, with a 3.0Ghz 6 Core i5-8400, 16GB DDR4 Ram, 256GB SSD (although it is a Small Form Factor machine rather than a tower, so depends what expansion if any you need)

Thanks to all for your interest and info. I suspected I would probably need something newer, so
your info has confirmed it for me, so thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Will start my research now ;)
king regards
