Hi guys just a quick one,

Looking at getting my parents sorted out will an LCD monitor to replace the old CRT monster they currently have.

I'm looking at a few 19" widescreens and one in particular can run at 1920 x 1080 which seems ludicrous to me really.

Basically,

1. Will that resolution be a complete waste for the extra few pennies?
2. Can a Radeon 9600 (XL I think?) run that res? (I must stress not for games, but maybe the occasional film)

Also!
3. The contrast ratio is only 1000:1 compared to 7000:1 on other 19" widescreens, how noticable is that? 1000:1 was pretty good in years gone by....

Thanks :)

I wouldn't recommend 1920x1080 on a 19" screen, it'll likely annoy your parents for general windows usage (i.e. everything being really small, and messing with DPI settings probably won't appeal).

A Radeon 9600 should run that resolution in 2d assuming it's supported at driver level (even if not, something like Powerstrip could probably sort it), as will pretty much any gpu from the past 10 years.
