Hi all,

I have a bag full of old coins from circa 1944 (half crown/shillings etc) with king George on the back.

As these all have silver content in them, they fetch money if you sell them by weight.

Whats the deal with these, shall I sell up or keep hold of them in the hope that they gain value? or shall I sell now with the price of silver?

Keep or sell?

Cool thanks, is there are accurate chart or price of silver that is updated when the value increases as I would like to keep track of this.

Also, where would be best to sell them? ebay or a proper valuable metal trader?

Thanks for the link :)

Wonder how accurate those prices are reflected once you list them on ebay.

If the value increases as per the graph, is this seen as a rise on the ebay listing?

Also, on that silver chart, I am guessing the left hand axis is the value ? E.G 26.26 would be £26 per troy ounce

Can't believe the value of gold :\ I need to find me some gold!

Cool cheers :)

I may do a test run and see how much I get, then save the rest to see if I can sell at a higher price when it rises.

If I gauge correctly, I think I have around 10 troy ounces, but that may be inaccurate until I weigh properly.

I have a slack handfull of florins, some of which you can still see George's moustache, which I am told is a mark of their potential value. I once innocently paid for an ice cream with one of these coins that my dad had back when I was about 10. I found them in a drawer and thought I was being clever conning an ice cream out of the ice cream man as they looked like 10p. I did wonder at the time why the bloke looked in glee at the coin has he handed me my 99.

:D Awsome,

Just bringing up this thread again as I decided to test the waters, and listed a small batch of pre 1947 silver coins on ebay, the lowest value coins I have out of the bag of silver coins I have. Not many!

They are currently going for around £70 with 1.7 days left

Woooo :)

I love old coins
