Hi, I have a W Reg, Renault Laguna 5 dr, 1.6 16valve Alize.

It was just serviced today (Major service) also had a new Cam Belt put on and a water pump, Total cost £380

this was not from a main dealer but a mechanic who i have used and friends use etc for a few years and always touch wood been happy.

Does that sound like a acceptable price ? or Robin Hood land ?

And i still need to get 2 new front tyres this week. Its only tuesday!!

Thanks

If you had gone to the dealer then double that figure and add a bit more for good luck.

Renault dealer wanted £320 just to change the cambelt on my wifes Megane. They looked quite confused when I burst out laughing :D

Cheers guys, just wasnt sure as i know diddly squat about cars. Didnt want to think i could have been taken for a ride. This guy has always been good in the past. Just hit me with that huge amount. Mind you if the cam belt had snapped whilst driving it would have been a lot more expensive.

Yeah, renault dealer wanted silly money. eg: my heater control that you turn to move the air on your feet, windshield, face etc snapped/ cable broke last year, i rang my renault dealer and they said it would be around £1300 to replace the cable as they had to take the entire dash out.

I said whilst laughing, forget it and I cope with it stuck on the windscreen.

Ive no idea with car specifics with cambelts (some are easier than others) But ive just gotten my ZX cambelt + tensioner changed for £130 inc fitting.. Add a further £100 max for the water pump and fitting I suppose and its fairly close!

Its easy enough to do yourself, just a royal PITA and a rather long job!

Pft peanuts :O

Audi a6 went in today, £1050
Toyota was in the last week, £800.
My Homegrown interim service? Cost? £50 in Parts

Both went in for normal services...

i need to do something similar. unfortunately i would not take on the task of doing a timing belt :S

Well with Renaults one price for all models servicing iirc it'd have bene 300-350 for the major service alone.

So personally I think you got a good deal, I paid £500 for major service and belt change (with full cam kit worth 120!) and that was with a hefty discount!

The belt change on the Clio has a Renault book time of 8 hours!
