OMG just HAD to buy a x1900xt

Overcharging or not..They are still selling..

try selling an x1900xt-x for that in another 6 months..(come to think of it..Try now)

christ. i dont care what their resale value is. i dont buy a card for that, i buy it because its the best value right there and then. But then again, i never buy top flight cards, because they ALWAYS loose their value;)

bad for you, good for us. maybe you wont buy a top flight card next time.

now think about the 7900 for a second. The 7800 isnt loosing value and what happens? instead of releasing the 7900 at the nearly the same price as the 7800 was, its just more expensive still. good for nvidia or good for us? im sure you know the answer.

I know that,,Every graphic card and most most other pc Components loose there value very fast..But no where near as fast as ATI cards do.

Only reason ati's "lose" their value is because the x1800 and x1900 had very close launch dates. Wouldn't be the case if the launches were spaced out by about 7 or 8 months.

Try buying an Aston Martin.. 15-20% off the price when you leave the showroom ;)

Only graphics card that EVER appreciated in value was the voodoo 5 6000, seen some of those go for a grand +

I have brought about 12 top end by cards now.

voodoo1
voodoo2
TNT 1
voodoo3 3000
voodoo5 5500agp
geforce 3
geforce 4600
ati 9800pro AIW
three 7800gtx 256mb
one x1900xt-x

so i guess i won't stop buying them.

I seen the PNY 7900gtx ..so i guess this will be my next two cards.

You always take a hit on buying top end, just released cards. This time around Nvidia dropped their prices because they had some competition, ATI dropped theirs to match them, good for the bargain hunters, bad for the hardware royals and the rest.

My top end = cards that were top end 12-18 months ago :D

Not cutting edge by any means but all the driver bugs are sorted by the time i get them,i pay maybe 50% of what the card originally cost and am quite happy.

I agree that its nice to have the latest and greatest card on the market and if i was a single lad again i would probably be the same.

It's great that you are buying top end cards, afterall in 12 months time they will probably be runing BF2 for me :D

if you dont get it now you never will.

If i want buy top end cards and loose my own money on them..What is the problem with that..95% of stuff most people buy will loose money..If you buy a brand new car..By the time you taken it home you have most likely lost £2000.

keep your rolleyes. this is a discussion not a playground argument. i understand why people buy top end cards, i have no problem with that. you dont or dont want to understand why people like me dont. because of a) the price and b) the price drops.

The only person who needs the roll eyes is you, but i wont bother.

My argument was..Nvidia highend cards keep there prices better then ATI highend cards

No highend card i have ever know or owned has dropped about £140 in less then two months..And for that i still say ATI cards do not keep there price as well as nvidia cards

Where you getting this below from.I have not idea.

It is all about what an individual wants to pay. Personally I find more fun in bang for buck, I went for gto2 because 78gt was more than I wanted to pay at the time, and the 79gt I have now was got at the price I was prepared to pay.

Agreed.

I never buy top end cards. And each card I have owned I have lost very little on.

9800 pro bought for 150 sold for 100
6600GT bought for 120 sold for 80
7800 GT bought for 210 sold for 170
7900 GT just bought for just over 200

Just selling at the right time. However the x1800's have dramatically dropped in price.ouch in the space of a few months.

so each time I have lost around 40-50 and had the card around 6 months
