 Shame i'm not even a Barclays customer! Feel free to spam with all the fake details in the world. Gmail picked up that it was a phishing email however. See Below

Recent email scams have attempted to con some customers into disclosing their Online Banking security log-in details. However, we would like to get security warnings across to as many customers as possible.

This is why we are asking you to take a few minutes to confirm your log-in details. This will allow us to identify you as the legal owner of the account.

Confirm your log-in details by following the link bellow:
https://ibank.barclays.co.uk/olb/q/LoginMember.do

If your log-in details are not confirmed within 7 days, your online access will be suspended.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Sincerely,
Account Review Department.
Barclays Bank PLC.

Actually comparing it to the actual Barclays login is quite scary, it's identical to the actual login.
When you write a hyperlink there's two parts: the actual link destination, and the display text.

So you can do http://www.example.com or this but also stuff like this: http://www.example.com - which tricks people and is what the e-mails do.

The forums have just auto-formatted the display part (which they wrote as the Barclays URL to fool you) into a proper link :)

I've told my bank that the only correspondence I'll accept is via post. A bank would *never* send an email - considering that I get the same email to 6 different accounts I know full well it's a scam.

It does look bloody convincing though - and no doubt enough people fall for it :/

Normally i can reconise these cons because of the URL in the address bar..

but this is comming from the genuine barclays site??

Pfft! at least it's recognised as a scam.
For me, Barclays really did cancel one of my accounts- the postman is a fool because he couldn't find my house so I had some mail from the bank returned. The bank saw this as clear evidence that I no longer occupy the address, so they closed the account (which has since cost me in overdraft charges and stuffed up my monthly car insurance direct debit). Funny really as I have several other accounts with Barclays which I have access to, all registered to the same address and there is no problem whatsoever with these. How they can differentiate between accounts held at the same property is beyond me.
Sounds like somebody somewhere is seriously dragging their feet.
Needless to say, I am closing all my accounts with Barclays (after having been with them since I was old enough to have a bank account) except for my higher rate savings account.

Banks; they're about as trustworthy as insurance companies... which is not very

I have had several of such scams, Eudora ALWAYS picks them up as phishing but they do raise a chuckle. They are usually from a bank that I don't have an account with, but you should report it to Barclays, even if you don't have an account, because they are very interested and will pursue it as best they can. I had one scammer try to get my business account detaiuls from NatWest and when I reported it the really went to town to try and find them. I even had a phone call from the business manager from my branch thanking me for reporting it.

i might just be being stupid here but that link looks like a genuine barclays one, its https secured by verisign registered to Barclays Bank Plc.

Dont forget to report it to castlecops

If everyone did this, we may have a chance of putting an end to phishing.

Dream on. Thats akin to saying "We'll make cannabis taking illegal, and that'll stop all usage of cannabis" Its not going to happen. The only way it will happen is by teaching people not to be stupid, not to trust stuff sent by e-mail and if in doubt to go to the webpage manually.

Did anyone read my post?

I did.. I'm alittle surprised that certain people in this thread made that mistake over URLs!

No, you're not being stupid; that site is genuine Barclays.

If you go to www.barclays.co.uk and manually navigate to the personal banking logon page, you reach exactly the same URL.

All I can think is that in the phishing email you received a different (phishing) URL was hidden under the displayed "ibank" URL. When you copied it for the forums, only the display URL was copied.

Either that, or the email is from someone trying to undemine the confidence that customers have in Barclays' online service by spamming an email making the normal personal banking log on page look like a phishing scam!

Interesting stuff, nonetheless!

Your thinking is quite correct. Thankyou for effectively regurgitating my post for people who can't read:)

Ha ha, no problems...

I actually didn't get your post first time through either, but after I wrote mine I went back and reread it and found that you were effectively saying the same thing as me. :embarrassed: Oh well!
