HI ALL

well this has been the worst 2 days for my computing life i can remember and i still dont know if things are right

lets start off with my gigabyte mob decided to give up the ghost on the ram slots (only 2 months old so going back for rma )

just managed to find 50 quid for a asrock 939dual sata2 comes yesterday and heres how my 2 days have gone lol

mobo comes i have unistalled previous and got it all ready put mobo on table to install processer THEN WHAM my 3200 slips from my fingers falls about 10 inches lands on a glass ashtray and has snapped like 7 pins right off and bent about 15 i could not beleive it

manage to borrow enough for another today and get all installed took me 7 hours just to get this thing going i have always used nforce and this is uli

it would not see h/d on sata 2 then it wouldnt see the sata h/d i installed the floppy during install and finally i have managed to get everything going

BUT

when i look in devices dosent say these are sat and sata2 in the ide part further down under scsi/raid it shows the alc sata2 and other sata controller is this normal for this chipset

all is working fine just used hd tach to see speeds and to be honest i cant tell from that

h/d connected to sata 2 comes back at 259m/b

but the other which is on the normal sata port only comes in at 110

are these right

and the only way i can see these drives is under disk drives in device manager cant check what speed they are running or anything any help please

I don't know your motherboard specs, but it looks like you have sata on the chipset, and sata2 on another (seperate) controller, which would explain things.

mmmmm think i may have fixed it

both crives were coming up as scsi drives and i was getting this raid thing come up in taskbar

i deleted the sata driver i got from the asrock site for the normal sata

rebooted the raid thing has dissapeard and now just shows as my sata2 port as scsi (is this right ) and my second normal sata h/d as ide hard drive

reran speed test and got 125 which is one more i got on my nf4 board and also the sata2 is coming in now at 260

maybe the driver i installed thought i wanted to run a raid set up and did something to settings

and the moral of the story...dont smoke

I've dropped both of the proccessors i've ever had. Fortunately, managed to bend the pins back with a mechanical pencil, very nerve wracking.

The 2nd one (Socket 754) was very difficult to bend them all back. The socket 478 one was much easier. Don't know what i'll do if i drop a 939 socket CPU. lol.

Sorry to hear that the pins actually broke. Happened to my housemates brother the other day, really sucks.
