On a scale of 1-10, how much do English errors annoy you?

The only time I REALLY mind are those idiotic Facebook status updates. People who spell words such as "wat", "cuz", "ano" more often than not are complete tools themselves.

People making honest mistakes doesn't bother me, it's when people revel in their own ignorance that it starts to grate on me or when skinny white teens try talking gangsta. E.g.

"Im going out a lot of da time whit ma bros"
"a lot isn't a word and you aren't a gangsta"
"Lolol who carez noob"

I hate when people type like this.....it really gets on my nerves.....they dont even seem to notice they are doing it from my experience....I don't understand why they have to type all these..................... - Just so annoying!:mad:

I'd advise you to use "its" if you're not going to learn how to use apostrophes correctly because "it's" is not possessive (to signify something belonging to it) as many people seem to think but it should still be correctly used as a contraction of "it is" or "it has". I'd prefer to see people leave out apostrophes if they are unsure than abuse the poor unsuspecting apostrophe - what's it ever done to them?
I must confess, if what you say is correct - which I have no doubt it is, then I have been beating that poor apostrophe to death. I had been using "it's" in the possessive or signifying the belonging to. I feel educated if not a little embarrassed :):o

Errors in spelling/punctuation/grammar; how much do they annoy you? Do they stop you from enjoying/reading a post or article? Do you get the urge to tell the writer they are wrong?

I do not get annoyed by the above, so basically maybe 2?

What I get annoyed by is that I have to ask how that person came to the conclusion, what was he thinking? Is there any evidence? Is the comment stereotypical or does it have any inconsistencies in logic etc...

About 9/10. I tend to make them myself if I'm in a massive rush to finish the reply/thread. I can happily forgive the odd error here and there, but not a post riddled with stupidity and bad English. Anyway, look at a reply from a friend of a friend on Facebook a while ago. This guy holds a university degree and a few years professional office experience.

'Every one in my famile is not singal and so happey i am the only one that singal. Al my freind r not singal'.

Let's be honest. He should be shot before contaminating the gene pool.

edit.

Just checked his page quickly for the hell of it and he spelled 'believe' as 'beileavei'.

Shoot.

Don't worry too much about it, I'm sure I make equally daft mistakes from time to time. Just to confirm though, one link regarding its vs it's, simply the first one I happened upon but I'm sure there are plenty of other ones you could pick.

I spent almost the whole morning re-writing a document that we were sending to a client.

It is quite frankly embarrassing how so many people cannot string a sentence together. I work with a lot of graduates from (apparently) Red Brick universities - they are the worst!

Mine is by no way perfect, but capitals and apostrophe 's appearing randomly - even words missing from a sentence is a common occurence. I actually had to get someone else to read the text to confirm it was as bad as I thought (I have begun to doubt my own capabilities). It was indeed "bobbins".

Unfortunately it comes under my remit more than anyone's to correct this, but sometimes I despair.

BB x
