On average, 100 miles for a 1.4l car costs?

depends how you drive mate!

In my old 1.4 205 I could get either up to 150 miles from a tenner of fuel, or as little as 30.

But on average, I'd say 100 miles is about a tenner of fuel.

Thanks for the estimate man, appreciate it.

At the moment I drive from the coast to Norwich, which is roughly 25 miles (3/4 motorways, 1/4 town/city), so there and back is 50 miles. I top up £25 a time and a trip to Norwich usually drains my car to 3/4. So that means i'm getting around 200 miles per £25.

£12.50 per 100 miles, which i'm guessing is about right considering i'm a first timer.

Sounds about right.

Not many of us from this part of the globe on here :p

I hope your trips to the coast don't involve endless runs up and down Yarmouth seafront sporting neons and a "Big Bore" exhaust :p ;)

A whole load of us went to Yarmouth a few weeks back - I haven't been in a while but I couldn't believe how much chav tat there was there! Everytime someone with a chavved up car went past the whole load of us did this huge mexican wave screaming WOAAHHHHHHHH - slightly random but their reactions were funny :D

Oh and the lovely playboy Punto driven by what seemed to be a 12yo with a baby on board sign in the back window... yum.

@OP: Sounds fine - lucky - I'm doing 170-200 miles to a full tank at the moment as one of the oxygen sensors has snuffed it :(

LOL - I am surprised that there are as many of us from Norfolk in this forum

Nice to see there are others on here from this part of town, i think the estimations are about correct. Im spending around £20 a week doing about 130-150 miles - this is mainly a 10 min journey across Norwich City center and a 15 journey on the a11 to work 5 days a week.

Almost as annoying as the girl with the Fiat Chinkychonkychenco or however you spell it thats covered in flower stickers. As if that doesn't get enough attention she drives up and down beeping her horn at every man woman or child

Can't say that I'm down there too often. After the accident the other day I'm sure they'll crack down on all the "boy racers" whether one of them was involved or not.

Sorry for derailment :o

That chap went to the same school as I did. A few of my friends in the lower years knew him. 17yo new driver in a Hyundai Coupe, hmmm.

Talking of cars with flowers, Wymondham is graced with both a Renault Espace covered in vinyl dasies, and a white Renault Clio painted with black cow spots.

Another apology for OT.. sorry Kaiju :(

I get about 350 miles in my 1.4 Civic for £35-37 go-go-juice. So pretty much dead on £10 per 100 miles, or pretty much spot on 40mpg. The engine is a peach though, it's a T reg, but with only 32k on the clock.

I was born in Norwich if that helps? :)

Unless you drive it like a tool everywhere?

I never drive like that:O

I hardly ever go on the motorway, probably once a year.
I drive 5miles to work and 5 miles back across town daily (Stuck in rush hour traffic)- 5 days a week.

the engine must have a problem.

What sort of problem?
A trip to my local garage me thinks:(

5 miles each trip means the engine probably isnt up to temperature by the time you turn it off anyway. Engine is prob ok, but it's hardly 'normal' driving

First time car owner looking for some rough figures.

£10 =100 miles. 1.4 Clio.

My daily commute is eating in to that though. Very cold starts in the morning, followed by a dual carriageway thrash doesn't do the economy a lot of good. Neither does the return crawl through town. I'm not even getting 400miles to a tank lately. :(

That being said the old girl does desperately need a service. More money up the wall...

I get about 300 miles out of a full tank which costs me £38 to fill up (40 litres).

A tenner is about 50-80 miles one mine depending on how I drive it. :p Though I always fill it up and never trust what the guage tells me!

Cars just dont like lots of short runs, you'll be lucky to get 20mpg driving like that. On the other hand, drive 100 miles down the motorway and your car will probably give you >40mpg.

I know modern fuels have detergents in them, but short cold runs can still foul up the engine, lowering fuel economy. Take your car for a blast, and help it clear its throat out a bit. Hammer it along a few miles of motorway from time to time :)

Averaged 50.4MPG from bristol to plymouth on the M5/A38 today :D but thats in a diesel.
