One for the airplane nerds - A380 360-deg photos. Check it!

I flew to Sydney on one. It was comfotable. The one in the photo is the one which the engine went bad on. The tail camera is great, until its gets dark then all you see is a strobe. Its werid going down the runway as they don't speed up very quickly. it feels like you've been going down the runway for a minuet and your still only doing 30mph, your thinking there can't be much runway left. Then somehow it takes off.

One thing that always strikes me when i see airbus cockpits is the thought of flying a plane (any plane) using stick control rather than a yoke. Blows my mind how you get any feedback or control using one.

Been on it about six times.

The flights to Australia with Singapore on the A380 are cheaper than Virgin using the old crap planes.

I always reserve upstairs seats also for an extra 30 quid. Exit seats so I have about 6tf leg room! Row 80 or 81 I think!

Nice shots! Though i feel sorry for the pilot & Co ... they must get a sore arse the seats dont look comfortable! ... i could be wrong :D

In the end it's still a tin can.

If you've done enough airmiles on business on a regular basis, it's just another tin can. I did LHR(mon)->Dubai(tues,wednesday)->Qtar(thurs)->Manilla(friday)->Hong Kong(mon)->LHR... after that tip I was glad to have business class for the legs after Dubai. However it's the flat bed-seat on the 747 for the 14 hour flight back (12 spent unconscious) rather than the plane itself that's impressed me :D

I like the way the engineer is given a laptop lol. No more big rows of dials and switches.

They don't have a flight engineer anymore. That laptop is not for flight use.

No more amazing than force feedback on an xbox 360 steering wheel.

Yes, it's another tin can but if you fly regularly enough, the smallest of differences can make the flight much more pleasant. Newer aircraft bring lower noise levels, better ambient lighting, better quality air, better temperature control, no rattles or squeaks. My regular airline has an ancient fleet and it's really getting on my goat. I'm holding out for new aircraft though :p

Oh i am sure its very well simulated, i am just saying that it blows my mind, its akin to driving a car with a stick. I am sure given the chance in a stick controlled plane i'd learn it and understand it fine, but having never experienced it....

I wonder how the pilots feel about there being no control column, must be very alien for them at first. Especially in an emergency you would instinctively reach for the column to bring it under the control, not tweak a little joystick.

It's very easy, atleast as easy as the control column. I found it much easier even using the left hand from the captains seat.

It leaves them the other arm to fap, instead of the two handed method on the control column. They have to do something while the computers do everything.
