I'm after high definition videos of deep space, nebulae, fly-bys etc for a project I’m doing. Do any of you know where I can download such media? Preferably without any watermarks. Many thanks :)

Thanks for that, some good stuff there :) Though if anyone else has more contributions to make, they would be gratefully received too!

One thing I always want to see in HD but have had no success in finding is the sort of renders common on programs like Horizon where you zoom in from say a cluster of galaxies, float around a few of them, then zoom deep into one to find a planet orbiting a star. Love those things.

Thats exactly what the opening of contact is, but in reverse, starts off at Earth and zooms out of the solar system, through the galaxy to the local supercluster.

Thanks for the suggestion :) Are we talking about the film here?

If he'll allow me to answer for him, yes, it's the film. Really great opening (and great film!), imo, and rendered really well, from a technical point of view. :)

That said, anyone inclined to nitpick might point out that the Pillars of Creation (greenish nebula) is the wrong way around in Contact. I think, from memory. :p

Cool, i'll look into Contact too then! To be honest I wasn't expecting any real footage, well rendered animation should be just then job though :D

Ah, did you read my post before the edit? I had a bit in about real footage, but I took it out after I realised how stupid I was being. Real video of stars beyond our suns wouldn't have the definition of a still, obviously, but would also only show stars moving slowly across the screen. I realised I was being stupid and that you couldn't possibly be after that, so I took that part out. I think my brain's taking today as a holiday. :o
