One of life's many mysteries?

I think a lot of people are just ignorant, they think it's acceptable to use amongst friends then it's ok. Well, if you don't say it in front of a Chinese person or think he or she will take offence then what does that tell you?

Calling a black guy a N word amongst the KKK clan isn't going to cause an uproar but i dare you to say it to a black guy to his face.

Hi Chinkie here,

I love how some of you guys are justifying yourselves using that word as non racist but on a night out after a few bevvies you have no problems shouting 'Chinkie' with racist undertone at me and my kind, or your 10 year olds opens the shop door shout chinkie and runs off again.

So let me get this right we have a word with 2 meanings here Chinkie meaning the ethnicity of food cooked using chinese methods and racist word meaning ching chong china man or woman!!! Have I got that right?

Classy

ROTFLMAO

I thought we had intelligence on here guess I was wrong

That is 100% correct. In some parts of the UK a Chinese meal is sometimes referred to as a chinkie. It isn't meant to be insulting - as far as I'm concerned it's just food, nothing else. :)

Classy isn't a word I'd use to describe it though :p

You see, now you're being deliberatley insulting. I merely made a mistake and was shown the error of my ways.

I never tried to insult anyone, however you are just here looking to cause trouble it seems.

OMG that made me think of the oriental lady in Avenue Q... part of me wondered how they got away with it, but I was glad they did! :D

I miss working for a Japanese company... I found those mispronunciations done by the ladies quite endearing :)

Well, that is an entirely different problem. I hardly see how you can claim that anyone who calls a chinese a chinkie must be a blatant racist who shouts abuse at people in the street. It is just these kinds of sweeping generalisation that make racism so commonplace. Hypocrite.
