One of those days...

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis!

Im feeling the tea bags though, work is more than depressing today and i open my drawer to find someone else took the last Yorkshire tea bag i had. :( :( :(

Here's something that should cheer you up!

It cheered me up :)

Do you have fat on your belly though? It's abdominal fat that leads to it. It can be on the inside around your organs. The fat buildup in the cells around your liver irritate them and they get inflamed, which causes insulin resistance. The inflammation puts you at high risk for atherosclerosis too.
Not really, I have lost 2 stone in 2 months making me 10.5 stone now. I've never been fat really. Although my diet isn't the best.

I love how you receive the rather bad news that you have diabetes (sorry to hear that - it's not that alone I love!) but then, just to make things even worse, you can't log into your game!

Take about out of the frying pan and into the fire :p

I know yeah, today is going from bad to worse! I am about to go to Asda to do some shopping, so wish me luck.

it get's better. fulham have signed berbatov for £4m!!!!!

sorry to hear about your diabetes though maybe sorry is the wrong word, plenty of people live with it, you will too.

Damn the worst part is running out of tea bags :(

Just kidding, sad to hear about the diagnosis though but at least there is treatment. My work colleague's cat was diagnosed with cancer last week, he had a surgical checkup done on it which cost £500 and it was terminal and is being put down next week :( It's got one dodgy eye, herpies (!) and randomly vomits and poos everywhere (liek this morning apparently).

Also today he was doing another colleague a favour by cleaning a virus off a laptop and once it was clean after hours, the touchpad bugged out and he accidentally double clicked the malware executable!

So yeah, I think he's having a bad day :p

Who would have thunk it?! Yeah I'm sure it'll be ok depending on which type it is.

How about I buy you a pint down the barrel's

Thanks for the offer mate but I'm off work on the sick so can't! Will have a pint soon.

Thats not so good news.

Do you know if it could have been avoided? Could a healthier lifestyle slowly overcome this?

There has been some studies that say moving immediately to a strictly calorie controlled diet (800cals~) for 6 weeks and then moving to a healthier diet can heavily reduce the effect for Type 2.

Most of the time Type 2 diabetes can be controlled by diet alone without the need to inject regularly/medicate etc. My gran was diagnosed a couple of years ago and she's in her mid 80s and her's is completely diet controlled.

One of the major symptoms involves rapid weight loss, this weight loss is not good. Far from it as the body cannot produce insulin to break down the fats or process the sugers in your blood so it starts breaking down more important areas of the body including muscle.

Losing 2 stone in two months in this case is not good. Explanation above is not great but is an outline. :)

If it was type 1 I would have thought you would be sent to hospital straight away. not book an appointment when you can.

Good luck with it though, it is not too much of a problem but then I have had it over 12 years now. :)

Don't worry about diabetes. You may be type 1. I'm type 1 and I can do pretty much whatever I want. I just don't eat too much rubbish and monitor my levels on a night out.

Type 2 is a little more difficult (in some circumstances) but not the end of the world.

You'd be surprised how incompetent some doctors. I was seriously ill for months. The doctor said I was just lazy and needed more exercise. 2 weeks later I collapsed, was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with diabetes.

If they think you're diabetic you really should be sorted out straight away.

I know that feeling.... went to the shops and bought some epic sandwich fillers yesterday, properly pumped for my lunch.

When i got home there was no bread...

And now I've trodden in dog poo with my new trainers. What the hell is going on today:(

What is going on is you are poor at planning (seeing the last few t-bags should mean getting more next time you are in a shop) and not paying attention to where you are looking (hence standing in crap).

Sort your **** out :)

Yep you basically wee your own insides out. Insulin is like the brakes on a car, it stops the constant catabolism (gluconeogenisis) and gets anabolism (glycogenesis, protein synthesis) going for a bit. If you your brakes are worn out you're in a constant state of catabolism and you literally **** glucose/protein out.

If you have just insulin resistance and not full blown diabetes then you will gain weight, because your body starts making too much insulin because the cells aren't responding right.

Thanks guys. My trip to Asda was accident free thank god. I don't think it's serious as they wouldn't let me wait for an appointment next week otherwise.

Yeah, that is definitely the same nhs I know :p :D

You have the same type of diabetes as me (Type 1). I lost 5 stone over 6 months!

It sucks when you find out, but once you've gotten used to injecting yourself it's not that bad.

If you manage it properly it shouldn't affect your health. Just gotta make sure you do manage it properly!

Things will get better mate
