Hi all,
I've just purchased an Onkyo S5405 system and spent yesterday setting it all up.
Lovely piece of kit, so much better than the aging Acoustic Solutions setup I had before.
Anyway, manual gives the impression that the reciever display will tell you what audio is being decoded.
So if I'm playing something with Dolby, the display will say so.
I have a PS3 attached via HDMI to the Receiver.

I grabbed Matrix Reloaded and it did sound great.
However when I scrolled through the display on the S5405 receiver I didn't once see the word "Dolby", instead seeing:
Multich
follwed by
MCH PCM 5.1

So, how can I be sure it is indeed decoding a DolbyHD audio as it is supposed to be?
If from the display listed above it indicates I'm not - does anyone have any ideas what setup I may have wrong?

Thanks.

With PS3 I think it still depends which version you have as to whether you'll get the HD Audio lights to light up on the receiver.

The older fat PS3 can't output the Bitstream HD audio. It decodes it and outputs as LPCM (MCH PCM) over HDMI.

The slim PS3 can output Bitstream HD audio, so the receiver will light up when it is doing the decoding.

All of the above depends on setting the menu options correctly on the player and on the disc of course.

Thanks for the posts.
It would appear I hadn't read enough about the PS3 - I have the "fat" version and so the unit is doing most of the decoding hence the display on the Onkyo.
Watched the whole Matrix Trilogy over the weekend and it sounded absolutely stunning on my new setup.

I've also got SkyHD attached to a surround sound system for the first time - that is pretty cool too.

Haven't quite worked out how I'm going to attach the WII to the system yet as cables aren't long enough.
I believe I need to run Component from WII to television and then the red/white audio from WII to Onkyo - need to get some kind of extension cable for those however.
