My contract with O2 ends on Tuesday and have decided to get a Nokia N73 on a new contract. I was going to try Orange but heard that theres a few problems with Orange's software and the N73, so looked around and have seen what seems a pretty good price plan on 3.

I know a couple of people who are on 3 and they say its a decent network, come along way since its early days. Basically I'm just after opinions (good and bad) from people who have been or are on 3, before i bite the bullet and order the phone.

I wouldn't bother with 3 to be honest, you won't get a good deal out of them in the future. If you look in the forum you'll see there is a update out for the N73 and all N73 has the issues with gallery/camera etc.

I would go with orange as you will get a good upgrade next year, plus they're software is always well tested before they release. Only a few times have i heard about software issues with their phones.

I'd say go with Three. It doesn't really matter about who offers the better upgrade in a years time... you could always just change networks again and probably get a better deal anyway.

As far as i can tell 3 offer the same service as o2, but with realtime usage checkup through your handset and lower data rate charges.

3 beat the best o2 would do for my renewal, so i have ended up with a K800i on a stupidly low rate on a nice short 12 month contract.

Just remember to turn off 3G on your phone (which may need a firmware flash as this K800i did), and you have a handset which sits perminently on o2's network, with cheaper data rates. Win win?

i would deffo recommend 3, just signed another 12 month contract with them couple weeks ago, free msn comes in handy

I guess most of you don't know that they'll also be making a switch to using Orange's 2G signal soon too. It's soon going to be O2 and T-Mobile using each others signal to make up for the places they dont cover as much (such as cornwall and up north).

And yes you are right, by changing it to 2G only you are in breach of 3's terms and condition.

By doing that you'll probably get a letter in the post from Three asking you not to do that. As they don't own the 2/2.5g network, they have to pay O2 a hefty fee for every call and text that you make.

I doubt it, I had a 6680 for 18months locked to 2g, never heard anything from them.

They dont mind you doing it as long as its a 3g handset.

Also its not exactly using o2, technically it uses 02s coverage but not there switching gear or boxes so you dont get as a good service as if you was with 02 per se

i have to say i am very impressed with there signal improvments how ever

Ok thanks guys, well the price plan for the N73 is the best i've seen so far, the msn is always handy as well. I get 14 days to return it according to the website, so worth a bash and if i don't like it i can return it. :)

You may be getting mixed up with the letters they send out to people who use their sim cards in non "3" issued handsets. Flashing the firmware to the non branded SE version doesnt change the IMEI, it doesnt even remove the simlock, they cannot tell you have done it. Ive been with 3 for a total of 4 years now on and off and have always had the handsets switched to only see the o2 network, never heard a thing.

Mmm was going to use the new sim card in my old phone and use it for work. But i have some of those free O2 sims so i'll use one of those, i'll have a look into the flashing thing as well.

My dads on 3 and he's been very happy with them. Coverage is good and their customer services has been good. I would recommend them :)

Well got my new phone through this morning (nice quick delivery), spent playing most of the day playing about with it and getting used to it as you do. So far everything seems ok (touches wood ;) ) and we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the help guys. :)
