Opinions on Audi A8 (D3) as a family barge?

I'm getting around 42mpg out of my 530d on a run. That is its real world consumption I'd suggest based on 3 or 4 long runs.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I hadn't considered the 7 series as too sporty, in fact I thought punters were keen on sporty models if anything, hence everything having a 'Sport' label on it these days. Unless I'm missing your point and you're referring more to the fact that the Audi and the Merc are more understated.

It's a bit of everything really, the current and previous 7's are just considered that tiny bit too sporty compared with the Audi and Merc. This is looks, handling, drive etc....

People who buy these cars often want to be drive in total luxury which of course is the total opposite to a 'sporty' BMW.

The 7 is just considered to not have as comfortable ride as the S or the interior of the A8. Plus the looks in the previous model were challenging compared with the almost timeless S Class and A8.

Superb is ideal for what he wants really. They are seriously limo like. Twin hatch makes it much more practical for load carrying than a huge limo barge too. Much more sensible running costs. The 3.6 V6 4x4 is even 150mph fast, although very rare.

Warning: kids will destroy the inside of your nice car. There'll be **** and toys and mess everywhere. Leather is good as it is wipe clean but baby seats mark it easily. Consider this before spending a lot of money.

Really depends how your kids behave.

I'm not sure on the boot space, but the Lexus LS 460h is supposed to be very reliable and you can get a decent one for the money.

+1 for a Superb.
If you can find a V6 you're laughing.
I'd take a fully loaded Superb over a poverty spec F10 Amy day of the week.

Really? Ive been test driving biggish cars in the last few weeks, and the superb is a very very good car, but it isnt all that cheap and the saloon is pig ugly. The estate looks much nicer, spec wise i'd agree the elegance comes with everything you would ever want it has masses of space. Its a nice car but not particularly special, its just a good cheap family car.

F10 is leagues ahead, the poverty spec isnt as spartan as you would think. I still think the Germans just know how to do proper prestige cars, the japs are getting closer but just cant quite hit that sweet spot.
