I like the looks of the revised Aurora. Nicer then my Akasa and see it cheapish in a local PC shop. It is also deeper then most cases so should have no bother with a G80.

I wonder how it compares to the Mirage/Eclipse airflow wise.

It looks like the front fan is still only good for hard drive cooling as the way the drives are mounted will make airflow into rest of case quite difficult, although there appears to be a wider opening in the front for air to get in. Also see they kept the rear 120mm fans and now fit the case as standard with mesh sidepanel and throw in the acryclic window as well if you want to change it.

Just wondering if the cooling would work well with the mesh in place as I would think this would cause the 2 rear fans to suck air through the mesh over the gpu's generating a lot of negative pressure. A good thing ?

However I do remember people complaining about the mesh sidepanel upsetting the airflow of the case, although if the front fan is only good for cooling the hard drive, I thought the mesh would have helped as the rear fans would be forced to draw cool air in through there. Then again I saw one review on CustomPC where they slated the Aurora for extremely poor airflow.

I'm pretty sure it was a good case as long as you steered clear of the mesh side panel. That CustomPC review was 'interesting'. I think that was the one that said the Akasa Mirage had an alloy front, so I just binned it and got on with my life.

They are pretty good cases, I have the old one and temps are fine even with the mesh side panel. Although I have put a 120mm fan on the side panel to cool the graphics, only running at 5v (600 rpm) though and it idles at 35-36c, load at 48c. CPU is an 805 pentium D @ 3.7 and hits 60c max with a freezer 7 pro and akasa Amber 120mm fan.

I am using a low speed seasonic PSU (900-1200 rpm) and 1000 rpm front and rear case fans, only one rear rather than two.

Might go for it....sounds good. I had an Aurora before for all of 5 minutes and had to flog it for financial reasons.

I like the look of the new 570. I imagine the mesh would only be a problem if it interfered with the front in / rear out airflow, but as the front airflow is kindof blocked anyway, I would hope the mesh helps the rear fans pull in cool air.

What did you use to mount the fan on the sidepanel....a zalman bracket ?

 I Wish I Never Brought My Akasa Eclipse To Be Honest, That Case  :(

What did you not like about it. I hate the looks myself and the Mirage is worse. Real crappy plastic door and pain to take off as the power/reset cables and usb/firewires cabled are attached to the inside of the door and need to come out as well.

i love the front of my eclipse! lol, just my kinky taste lol :) nothing i don't like about the eclispe - i just prefer the internal layout of the Aurora (e.g. hard drives), and the double 120mm exhausts :)

Sorry to drag up an old thread.

Am moving the contents in my sig below to a new case.
Budget can afford the new Antec P182 gunmetal black or the Gigabyte Aurora 570. Don't like the looks of the Akasa Eclipse (had many before). Lian Li A10 and Tj09 over budget.

I know the aurora will have an easier time with cabling and fits 2 g80's no hassle over being slightly deeper then the rev1 version. Only question is poor airflow in front especially as I will have 4 hd's in there. Is the 2 rear fans sufficient to provide enough cooling then ? Perhaps a zalman fan bracket/scythe sflex or other quiet fan pulling air through the mesh.

The Antec is enticing over the fact I know the drives will be isolated, decent noise absorbtion, decent cpu cooling. Would have to add an additional fan to front and remove middle drive bay to cool gpu's. And there is the question of whether the fan/heatsink on the bottom gtx will block cables being routed from psu area (although I will use the rear of the mobo tray to route the atx and eps cables). Will probably be using a Corsair 620HZ which will definitely be enough power and this I believe has flattened plastic cables which are easy to route.

Any advice appreciated.

The hard drives in the hdd bay should be fine. I didn't have a front fan for a while and my raptor was kept at a constant 28c. Adding a front fan just made the temps better so considering that raptors are usually hotter then i can safely say that the hard drives should be fine.

If this new aurora is anything like my original aurora then i would consider changing the rear fans. They hardly push any air at all so i changed them pretty much instantly to a pair of panaflo's. This improved temps quite a lot whilst still being fairly quiet.

Thanks for the info mark. I did read a few posts and see a questionable review from CustomPC about the front blocking ariflow but it sounds like that was unfounded. It is a very spacious case allright and am sure it will meet my needs.

One other question, did you stick with the mesh...as I mentioned below some people recommend against it as it screws up front to back airflow but considering the front fan only really cools the drives, I though the mesh would be a good idea if you had powerful enough rear fans they could pull the air through it keeping your gpu's cool. Maybe I'm wrong.

^^ i think he means the looks ;) A lot of people didn't like the original aurora's looks, i love it! However, even i don't like the new aurora, the front looks fugly tbh :p It's all down to personal preference really.

In regards to the mesh, the original aurora didn't include both the acrylic and mesh windows, you had to buy it with one or the other. I chose the acrylic window to cut down on noise and also i like looking inside the case :p

fair enough...but I saw one the other day and though it was built pretty well...at least the same quality as the eclipse. looks are another matter though. regardless you didn't really contribute to this thread.

 fine. i was going to say it looks crap and you can buy a better looking case that has 3x 120mm fans,. probably for the same price or less. but as im not contributing to this thread, i wont bother. Thats a a bit harsh isnt it? i know one thing, i wouldn't have that under my desk and for £100? no way. it least it's an alu front, but that doesnt stop it looking like a transformer lol

Yes i was very pleased with the quality, at least the front panel is metal and not plastic like some cases. The door on the front is very thick, it could easily knock somebody out....just in case you're ever in that situation :p
