Hi all,

I am quite tempted by the above car however I have never driven one (only sat in one) so I was wondering how it actually drives?

I have noticed that they are starting to filter into my price range (up to 9k) and insurance is also not too bad either.

Fuel consumption wise parkers suggest 27mpg however I assume it may get more on longer runs? (The wife(yes I got married ) and I enjoy going up to North Wales and further for long weekends). My swift sport only returns 30mpg or so and I don't find that particularly hard on the wallet (due to our recent move I only commute 30 miles a day). As long as I could get 25mpg or more I would be happy for the work run. Is this possible?

I have currently seen this one (yes I am aware its an estate) :

And well .... YUM lol. The interior looks like it is new and for some reason even though its an estate it looks stunning, plus the extra space (hatchback or estate) would be handy as well, the swift was a real struggle getting our luggage into for the honeymoon.

Best part is that its up for just shy of £8000 which considering its spec and condition appears to be a relative bargin (is it?!).

What are your opinions on the car in question?

Cheers :)

*Edit: I won't be able to reply to any queries until this evening as OCUK is blocked at work*

I know its not the same, but I recently hired a diesel mondeo of that version. I was quite shocked to find I actually liked it.

Looks good VFM, whats the mileage? Are the seats Recaro? (Looks like wing back seats in pic 1)

that looks nice and in the 2nd best colour too (panther black (performance blue being the absolute best)), i like the estates too and that one looks like it has the sat nav too which is good, looks to be a very good price - is that private or dealer?

Do it, buy it, get it now. I so miss mine:mad:

Simply the best car I've ever had, comfort, luxury and goes like stink..!!

If you get one, try to get an 03 or later, as youl'll get an updated interior along with some other improvements. What worries me is that the ST220 above is a 53 but dosen't have the chrome trim around the grill that should have come with the 03 update.

Anyone care to explain?

Im really interested in ST220's. Considering one if I ever sell my impreza and decide on something more sensible and comfortable that does more than 20mpg.

Sorry I was not very descriptive in my first post.

The car has done circa 65k on a 53 plate.

It is from a dealer (independant) relatively close to where we live (thought I best start out local, test drive one and then if I don't like it then I don't have to worry about the long trek home)

For some unknown reason I really like the estate model I posted above. I don't know what it is but I just want it lol,

Dangerous - 37mpg sounds realy good, I take it that was on the motorway?

I have got my swift down to 11mpg so 9mpg (I assume you were driving quite quickly) sems pretty ok. As I said though as long as I can get 25-30mpg on the run to work I am not too bothered.

I have no idea to be honest. I suppose the car could be late registered?

Sorry for the double post, I am typing this on my ps3 and the text box wouldn't let me type more than what I posted above?!

absolutely love mine. 02 plate on 45k for just under 7k.

Looks amazing (now the alloys are refurbed) and as said above goes like stink!

Average around 25mpg, mixed motorway and back rounds to work everyday. Definitely worth it.

Once again, Ford's styling department hit the nail of the time right slap bang on it's head. both inside and outside the ST looks fantastic IMHO.

Couldn't agree more.

Personally I didn't really pay much attention to the ST220 until quite recently when I realised I could actually afford to run one quite comfortably and the insurance isn't too bad compared to my swift sport. It was only then I actually noticed how good it looks.

The standard mondeo just doesn't do anything for me however the ST as you say just looks bang on. (kind of like my swift sport compared to the standard swift (or course in my opinion))

I will be looking at the ST estate above at the weekend as it really does look like a lot of car for the money. I will update after I have taken a look with my opinion.

Cheers all for the replies so far. :)

Fantastic cars. Love them and thoroughly enjoyed the one the Ford dealer was foolish enough to loan me. Almost bought one suspect this is something I will one day regret.

Buy it. It's one of the most under-rated cars around.

Personally I think they are awesome! If I'd had a grand or two more and wasn't as worried about the fuel economy I'd be driving one now.
