Opteron 165 - 170 - 175 steppings? + anyone got any of these yet?

Hi guys, i have found a decent uk site to buy these 3 chips from at reasonable prices, now i'm thinking of going from my single core 148 CABYE to a dc but not sure wich, a quick question, how are these clocking so far (can anyone link me to another thread of give me insite?)? also what steppings are they (is it the same CABGE / CABYE / CABNE as the single cores)?

On a side note a performance comparison of someone that has gone from a opteron SC to a opteorn DC would be helpfull :D
 
I know exactly which site you are talking about and I would really really advise you NOT to buy from them !!! Lots of people have posted in these forums (and others) stating that site will take your money immediately, and have you on back order for a while. One chap took 2 months to get his money back.

There is a thread on www.guru3d.com (which is a games forum site, so doesnt break the rules) which tells of peoples troubles with that site.
 
The 165 is meant to be very overclockable, some hit 2.6GHz with a decent heatsink and fan. :) From my understanding, the 170 and 175 can hit about that as well, haven't heard much of them hitting beyond those speeds without upping the voltage and temperatures extensively. Don't quote me on that though. :)
 
My 165 is at 2565MHz @ 1.376V with just an Arctic 64 cooler, temps are quite high at 51C(with 2 primes running) and the thing is quite noisey - so i'm looking for a better heatsink atm..

My stepping is CCBWE 0551 VPMW, it's a great chip.
 
Thats stock volts right? I think I'm getting the same stepping so hopefully it will hit 2.8 without pushing too hard :D

edit: just saw your thread benktlottie! Looks like this stepping is doing excellent!!
 
hmm nicely now this is throwing a spanner in the works, do i go for the 165 or 170 hmmmm? anyone know how these are comparing performance wise to either the single core opty's or the x2 chips?
 
I would have thought there was not much in it between the 165 and 170 in overall clock speed maximum. The only benefit, and this is a major one at that, is the 10x multi on the 170 over the 9x multi on the 165. Meaning systems limited to 300HTT speeds have got the best chance of reaching the max on the chip before being limited by the ram / motherboard having a 10x multi to play with. I've just gone for a 170 from ocuk this afternoon as I've currently got a 146 in at 3Ghz - 300Htt x 10 and the higher multi will make life easier.

Let us know what the stepping is like pelase Nick. I want to know how well they clock (i'm tempted to get one).
 
I just put my 170 in today, not tried overclocking it yet, will give it a day or 2 to settle in :) This is going from a 146 clocked at 2.9ghz.
The stepping of my 170 is CCBWE 0546XPMW, there was a site selling these for close to £400 claiming that this stepping overclocks to 2.7ghz. I didnt get mine from that site but fingers crossed i'll get similar results.
 
Opteron 165 bought in December last year.

CCBWE 0536 MPMW

Currently running at 2.46 on 1.4 volts (default is 1.35) but this is all I can persuade my AsRock to boot at reliably so far.
 
Got my 170 this morning. Stepping is CCBWE 0550UPMW. Seen someone at xtremesystems getting good results with this stepping, so well pleased :D From overclockers I might add .... only ordered it yesterday at 3.50, so great service :D

Finally finished tweaking mine got it dual prime stable at 2.85 ghz stepping CCB1E 0550 165 on swiftech ultra watercooling 42c at load. Got another with the same stepping to test now.

Whats the full stepping, inc the last line ?
 
Sounds like mine should be a good stepping also from ocuk, ordered mine yesterday afternoon too at 4pm, not arrived yet tho.

Can't wait to see how it'll do as I know my system is rock stable at 300HTT so with the 10x multi it'll just be cpu dependant.
