why (for the same package) is the t-moble option £35 p/m and orange £40 p/m oh and with the orange one, they want £9.99 for the handset

Because they are 2 different brands that are allowed to charge differently. Just because they are the same company doesn't mean they need to fully merge everything

Well reception is now shared by orange and t-mob, so register to have access to t-mob network and then see what signal you get on t-mob.

I've been a t-mob customer for 10 years (worked for them for 5) and have never had an issue. I also have an orange work phone and work next to an orange mast, so again no issues and as for customer service, i go to a specialised team for my calls. So I can't really tell you what the service is like without being a little biased
