Memory card ,and the lack of one.
Was reading the orange getting started book that came with the phone and came across page 39 1st paragraph where it says that you get a 512mb memory card with the phone, when I then telephoned orange about it they just said we dont supply one with that phone and when I said its in black and white in the orange getting started book it clearly states you do she just said we dont supply one and you better take it up with the orange shop you bought it from.

I know these cards are only £20 but thats not the point,
I will be calling the shop where I bought it from tomorrow and taking the book with me for proof and see what they are going to do.
I think orange need to sort this very quickly as they wrote the book where it says you get one..

apart from that, an excellent phone.

The get started book is incorrect, and is currently being corrected. It happens sometimes that things like this get missed.

The phone is not advertised anywhere as coming with a memory card, it's only a printing error in the in-box literature.

It may be a mistake that is now being rectified but there are a lot of people with a book written by orange stating you get a 512mb mem card.
they should honour what they have written and give mem cards to the people who have what you term as an incorrect book or will look very poor on their part as they dont stick to their word.
We ALL make mistakes and sometimes have to pay a price for that.
Orange say they take their time releasing handsets due to testing, maybe they should read the books slowly that they write !.
I see what the shop says and if I dont get a 512mb mem card then its trading standards time.
Its advertised on page 39 of the getting started book as being supplied with a memory card so I want a memory card.

ps its not a printing error, it is a human error.
Just bill the person responsible for writing the book for all the memory cards.....

The phone wasn't advertised as coming with a memory card - what is mentioned in the manual is irrelevant.
Exactly - no where before you actually receive the phone and unpack it were you ever lead to believe it came with a memory card.

I got a k800i yesterday, I'm not complaining.

LOL  good luck , even when things are advertised, trading standards dont actually help that much.

As has already been said, if you start threatening people with Trading Standards you are going to be laughed at.

The only way you can know about the "Memory Card" is if you already own the phone and are reading through the manual.
You did not purchase the phone expecting to get a memory card.
Moreover at no stage prior to your purchase were you given the impression that a memory card would be included.

So you've bought exactly what you expected and they have sold you exactly what they advertised and what you expected.
For there to be a memory card included would have been an unexpected bonus for you.

The store might decide to offer you a gesture (if it was my shop and you came in shouting Trading Standards it would be of the two finger variety) but Trading Standards are not going to be interested in this one at all.

What. I am not threatening any one with trading standards, I simply said that I will see what the orange shop says and if I dont get any joy It is my choice to ask trading standards opinion.
Who is going to laugh at me and why?

Who is shouting?
What is all this about a 2 finger gesture ? ( good job you dont have your own store if when confronted by something you resort to using 2 finger gestures(you mean like a baboon might use 2 fingers))

Just think of it, you go to a shop to complain about something you bought and some idiot behind the counter just starts putting 2 fingers up at you.

Why wont trading standards be intersted? do you work for them?

No but a lot of members have had experiance with them or in fact some of the larger cases that have been on watchdog, which we actually won. Only due to pure pressure..

For example i bought a pda that was advertised as having bluetooth and wireless, it only had bluetooth. now the cost of a wireless card was £40 so i was either wanting my pda replaced or a wireless card. The company didnt answer any emails, didnt answer the phone. I spoke to trading standards and they just said it wasnt worth the hassle even though i was in the right. The key area is here it was ADVERTISED as having wireless.

In the end it wasnt worth the stress or cost of phone calls.

The reason people are laughing is that people seem to think the trading standards are some magical force. If you go and see them they will probably laugh at you behind your back. In the first instance all they will do is advise, then they may send a letter if your lucky. This sometimes does the trick but large companies dont really give a monkeys tbh

This isnt to mention the fact that you dont have a leg to stand on due to a printing error in the manual. It would have been different if the shop had, had posters up advertising this memory but they didnt

^^^So if that's the response you get when a product is advertised as having a certain feature or product included, then you have no chance. The k800i was never advertised with a free memory card.

I understand what your saying about trading standards and for a £20 mem card that is only written in the getting started guide as being included I now see the wont be intersted in that.
I been a bit of a bear with a soar head this week (been on nights) now that I am more awake and mellow I may give the shop a ring and see if they can do anything for me, if not I just buy one any way.

Anyway enough of the I didnt get a mem card,
Am made up with this phone , good video quality and the web browser is cool at doing landscape, :)

LOL - nicely edited e-mail, I knew there was a reason to quote original posts in your own replies to stop this kind of thing happening.
I know this is an old thread but the edited post did indeed mention Trading Standards as you well know.
It was also a lot more aggressive than it stands now, hence the reason for my reference to "shouting".

Just in case anybody else stumbles across this thread in the future and thinks my post was out of context.
*Note to self - must always quote messages as people love to use the edit button*
