Orange or O2 for the Iphone

I know there have been lots of discussions about this but I could really do with some help choosing which way to go. I know that Orange have the biggest 3g coverage in the UK which should be good but on the other hand they have the 750mb potential cap and no visual voicemail.

On the other hand is O2, I'm not sure about their 3g network but have been told they have the best 2g network in the UK.

Just to make the decision more complicated, I can get £75 back using the open discount with 02 or 10% line rental discount with Orange.

Any thoughts anyone? I'm likely to use the Iphone a lot for browsing, but other than this i don't have any specific needs. Will i miss visual voicemail?

Thanks in advance.

Thought about Tesco?

Same network as 02, but an awful lot cheaper.

 seriously?! If you dont want to do anything other than browse the net fine, if you send over 600 texts a month then there is no point going with Tesco and also thats before you even think about calls....I think the £60 cap could go quite quickly especially with calls to any other network and this could be a huge problem. You also end up paying a lot for a 3GS anyways at around £333 with the contract.

This is worthwhile should you NEED more then 500 texts per month!!!!

Buy the phone £430approx for 16GB GS (if thats what you want)

Buy a simplicity style deal on the network of your choice.....

O2 as an example here and then select something along the lines of 600mins 1200texts and use the Bold-On for Unlimited Internet and this works out at being £20 a month. This is a much cheaper way to service the deal IF you can afford to buy the handset outright.

It all depends on how you use the phone however.

If you need to add unlimited texts through a bolt on from the original set 500 then you will pay around £8 extra per month....quite a bit.

All in all you would pay a little bit more over say the Tesco period but in the long run you wouldnt really have as much of a chance of going over your limits, as I said earlier the Tesco deal has its drawbacks, if say one month you use your phone heavily for calls you may get a shockingly bad bill in at the end of that month, the £60 of Text/Calls combi wont stretch as far as you would think.

If not then look at who provides the best network coverage!!! Orange has a wider 3G network than O2 but apparently there have been problems due to the increased useage recently. Its 6 and half a dozen depending on your location.

Will the simplicity options work with visual voicemail etc..? Also will they work with any of the simplicity tarrifs available online - it does seem a much cheaper option in the long run (especially over 24 months)

150 mins and 300 texts is fine for me in a month, so I am definitely looking at the £20 Tesco contract. Worth considering as Rrrodga mentions, depends on how you use your phone.

The shorter contract length is quite welcome too.

I think that the £20 a month option with the unlimited bolt on would be great (i'm currently on a contract with 125 mins and 250 texts!). I'm sure my usage will increase though. I'm really interested in whether all of the features of the iphone will work with the simplicity tariffs?

Thanks again

All but visual voicemail will work, who wants that anyway?

Thanks for the comments - Visual Voicemail i'm not sure who wants that was just curious. I'm sure someone will spring to it's defence! As for the wi-fi bolt on, I'm not sure how extensive the wi-fi coverage is. I'm more likely to use the phone on the move rather than sit and browse.

Been looking at the figures here -

O2 (contract) = £11 for the phone due to open discount + £35x24 for the contract = £840 total
O2 (simplicity) = £440 for the phone + £20x24 for the contract = £920 for the total compared over 2 years.

I realise the simplicity option would give a quicker upgrade options but this would incur a cost as well.

Have i worked this out right?
