Over there
I just moved onto Orange Pay as You Go. I asked to be put on the tarrif where y ou get 300messages for every 10 quid u put on. The guy told me that its done a month advanced kind of thing.

So at the moment Ive put ten quid on, and according to him the 300 messages I will get next month, not now. Is that right?

I feel a bit conned since I am now paying 10p per text.

That's how it works :)

I find it a tad annoying as I mostly use texts, i'll use £30 one month and so get 1000 free texts the next month. Except I then don't top up, so next month I end up spending about £50 because i've got used to texting loads...

It's ended up a fairly cunning way of them extracting twice as much money from me as they were getting before :(

btw, its not quite 300 for every £10, £10 = 300, £20 = 600, £30+ = 1000. Once you hit £30 it tops out, you wont end up with 1200 if you top up £40.

Also, they don't carry over, so if you don't use them by the 30th/31st of whatever month it is, they're gone and you get reassigned new ones based on your top ups of the previous month.

If you've just moved onto the tariff, then once the system catches up after you've topped up (assuming you topped up after the tarrif change) you'll get your free texts within approx 72 hours.

This date then becomes your analysis date and every month on that date it calculates how much you've topped up by the previous month and applies the correct number of texts.

...when I moved over I had to wait til the next month before it credited me with any free texts? I think I switched on the 27/28th of the month at the time though, so I may just be a little confuzzled :p

i was on that tariff for the last 8ish months. when you ring the number to topup it will say "You have XXX free texts to use before midnight on the [DATE]" that date is now your new start to each month.

All the credit you have put on your phone during the month before will affect the text you get. and you get the free texts around the date mentioned on the call

sorry i couldnt put it easier, my brain is sleepy

The checking date varies depending on when you change the tarriff and stuff, it gets a little complicated but it's not the same for all customers.

Calling 453 and listening right the way through will tell you when your analysis date is :)

"Hello, your remaining credit is <value> pence. Thank you for calling. Goodbye." *line dies*

I didn't have any free ones this month, will it not tell me such info unless I currently have some free ones to use?

When signed up i got 300 free to start with - then had to top up 10 pound to get them after that.

Also when you put 20 pounds on you get 600 and 30 you get 1000 if you didnt already know.

I got a message about an hour ago telling me that 300 text messages have been given to me to be used before midnight on Feb 13th.

So them messages are given to you regardless of how much you put on to begin with, and then any credit i put on the phone befor the 13th feb, that will decide what texts i get next month?

So if i put 20 quid credit on before 13th Feb, i will get 600 texts from the 13th of Feb till 13th March?

Yep, pretty much spot on.

It should say press one for other options, or call orange on 450 (25p flat charge) to an operator to activate it if you haven't already. You can also do it on their website but thats a few days, where the operator can do it immediately.

I activated it months and months ago now, been using it since about June at a guess, maybe July. 453 has never said anything about options to me ever. Just 'This is your credit. Bye'
