Orange phone loses signal

This has been bugging me for months but only now have I got around to posting about it.

Anyone else find their Orange phone frequently spends most of its time swapping between 2g and 3g, with the resulting 3-4 second loss of signal? It's very annoying.

Why does this happen? I have lost count of the number of times I've gone to make a call only to have no network coverage becuase the phone is yet again swapping around.

Only cure seems to be to disable 3g. Which would defeat the point in a 3g phone.

Doesn't happen here on my SPV M700 :)
What phone have you got?

I recommend popping into an Orange shop next time your nearby one and explain whats wrong, they are more help then you think.

Let me guess, you have a Nokia N series...

I have no such signal issues with my SE P990i. However the way the triggers for network switching (and the seamless nature of them) are different for different handsets and manufacturers.

The root cause is that phones are designed to switch from 3g to 2g if 3g signal is poor, and back again when it improves. It's just that some manufacturers believe that one implementation is acceptable, and others don't.

I do have issues with the SE phones I've had. They say they've got perfect signal, but when it comes to make a call - I can't. When anyone tries to ring me, it goes straight to answerphone.

If you wait long enough, eventually you'll get a barrage of text messages with all the missed calls listed. As a result of this, I've had to disable 3G on both my last two SE phones, and my sister's. Just not worth the hassle!

When my work phone was on Orange it used to do this all the time and it drove me insane. Used to drop calls all the time when it switched from 3G to 2G, especially when driving.

Thankfully somebody saw sense and my work phone's now on Vodafone - no such problems since!

I'm on a k750i with orange and it seems the signal around plymouth is pretty kak everywhere. Regularly get texts telling me i've missed a call.

My N95 does it all the time, really gets annoying. Never used to have any problems with my N80 on 3, i'm jumping ship as soon as this contract is finished i've been nothing but dissapointed with orange this time tbh.

Oddly, I have this problem too. It never used to happen but now my calls get cut off every 10 minutes or so. Most annoying. Debating whether to jump ship back to Vodafone myself.
