ordering this at the end of the week.. what you guys think?

Hey supergt, :)

Can I ask a question? . . . would I be right in thinking that new students get some huge big cheque ££ or something when they start? . . . I'm asking because I have seen quite a lot of threads where people are starting university and they all seem to be buying £1500 computers?

Do you get money to burn or do you have to pay it back? . . . is there nothing else you could use some money for or?

most likly a present from the parents for getting into Uni in the first place, like when some parents give presents for getting good grades at school :P

students do get student loans, however, they dont get that until after starting uni, usually in the first few weeks.
althou u obviously need to pay the uni fees, accomodation and everything else, etc.
althou when i was at uni, i knew a few ppl whos parents paid there accomdation and uni fees for them, so they could use all thier loan on what ever they wanted.

student loans you do have to pay back, they are just like any other loan, just usually have lower interest

aha no worries!

yes sadly my student loan is going towards accommodation, any left over is just living money!

my only other problem is the case, since there is no ETA on it but i am just in love with the cable management it has and the features! wish there was another case like it already available :(

would a Corsair HX 650W be able to power SLI 460s?

yes, the 650 would be enough for 2 460's.

also, a single 480 will run pretty much any game on full at the res of the moniter, so u could just forget about SLI all together and stick with a single 480

i think if it was me, thats what i would do.
some ppl have issues with SLI, and some have to spend time tweaking thier system/drivers to get it working.

whereas a single card would be hassle free, and save on ur power bill at uni (if you have to pay it)

of course, another choise could be to get the HX650 and a GTX480, then later on sell it and get 2 460's.

but like i said, if it was me, i would stick to the single card

ahaha mate nottingham trent 2010 is getting invaded by me! but if you see what sort of PC ive had to live with you would understand how one could get excited just by that!

also cycrow, Phoenixdancer above said that the HX650 wouldnt be enough for the spec with the 480 so not sure where that leaves me lol :D

650 is plenty for a single 480.

some ppl just go insane with PSU's thinking they need lots of power when they really dont.

a 480 running a full load uses upto 300W of power, u'll be lucky if u ever go over 500W for the whole system under full load.

making the 650 perfect, giving you extra room if you need it, and not puting too much stress on the PSU by maxing it out

aha alright nice thanks! guess that's decided! problem now is either to order it all now and have it all lying there till the case is delivered or wait till the case is actually available in the hopes that price drops come

hmmmmmmmm

send a webnote and ask about possible delivery date for the case, then u can decided what to do.

or get the 700D instead, althou its a bigger case, so make sure u have room to transport it to uni :P

when i went to uni i had the Lian-Li V2000 which is the same size as the 700D

thats the thing! gonna need to be able to transport it! although the 600t is absolutely huge itself

600t 20" (H) x 23.3" (L) x 10.4" (W) - (507mm x 592mm x 265mm)

700d 24" (H) x 24" (L) x 9" (W) - (609mm X 609mm X 229 mm)

What are you planning on rendering on this "monster" PC ?
Bare in mind Monsters Vs Aliens took a combined total of 40 million hours to do using the highest tech render farms.
Good luck ! :)

obviously if u plan to take it back and forth all the time, then i would avoid the 700D.

i just left mine at uni, so i didn't need to keep transporting it.

there both nice cases thou :P
i currently have the 800D

Sweet!, only things i would change is mobo for asus p6x58d-e, cooler for noctua d-14 and the PSU to 650HX depending if you want modular cables or not.
