Our attitudes toward paedophiles.

I think being a Paedophile involves knowingly partaking in sexual activity with and underage person through cohersion or force.

The fact is, being a paedophile is not like being homesexual. That is unless you are a homosexual rapist. They have urges just like we all do. I am attracted to hot women but I do not force them into having sex with me. Their attraction to younger children, male or female, does not remove their ability to choose between right and wrong.
However I do have some sympathy for the person who was convicted recently after manipulating normal pornography to make the women look younger.

And Me and many others would be completely happy if I could drive any speed. Your argument doesn't make sense.

Do you agree they are a danger to kids?
Do you think they can be treated for there condition?

what do you suggest we do with them, it is not acceptable to have sex with babies/kids.
 
I'd guess "underage" is a modern social construct.
King Henry IV and Aethelred II both married 12 year old girls.

As the female is capable of getting preggers at 12, then in New World societies, marriage at 12 would help produce more workers. (I guess everyone didn't live long enough to be too worried about the pros and cons of this)


I think I class pedos in with dictators who gas people, in that I can't be bothered to think too much about them - I just want them removed from society and I'm not too bothered as to how we do that.

There isn't much to be gained from thinking about a fair way to treat them, and not a lot to lose by letting them stay in jail.

What am saying is the age of consent and the society perception makes it look like they are evil and what not...

As a parent i am forced to say MAYBE but i honestly dont know, if going by what i have read and what not i would say NO

I dont know but the solution at the moment just somehow dont feel right.

paedophiles engage in sex with prebucence kids, not just underage.

Technically it doesn't. It's just being attracted to kids, whether or not you act on it.

"Underage" is a social construct. Being a child, in a biological context, is not. The lines are blurred when it comes to early teens (11-13) as some are more developed physically than others.

See this is why i said we need to do more in terms of understanding them as a society, i find myself disagreeing with that part i put in bold. I am forced to think that it is not every one of them has the preference for little kids. Hence why i said underage..

But that's what the definition of a paedophile is. That's like saying not all homosexual men have a preference for men!

Slams head on keyboard! :p What i was trying to say is that not everyone of them want to have sex with a baby or 5 year old...some will prefer 14 -15...something like that.

Im sorry, i have the point in my head but bringing it out is a pain. Damm dsylexia :)

What I was trying to say that if they are attracted to 14-16 year olds then by definition they are NOT paedophiles. Paedophiles are attracted to pre-pubescent children, hence someone who is not attracted to pre-pubescent children is not a paedophile.

As SpeedFreak pointed out, colloquially people mean paedophile to be anyone who is attracted to underage people. But just because people sometimes use the word to mean that it doesn't make them right. I'll admit that I have found myself attracted to 15 year old girls but that doesn't make me a paedophile. Even consider some places in the US where the age of consent is 18. Would someone attracted to 17 year olds be a paedophile?
