Out of the blue delivery

Feel stupid for falling for it!

Several departments, but not a huge company. They had my name and work address, and got through on my desk phone (possibly forwarded by reception), which made it plausible at the time. Thinking back, they did struggle to read out my address initially.

Wonder what they are trying to get up to.

A common scam with companies with large and complex structures is to use real names to get hold of other, more important people.
Which can be used for marketing, headhunting, or something more sinister ("Hi Managing Director, this is [person's name] from IT, we need you to open Remote Desktop control for a moment..").

He got a card through the door,
"Sorry, tried to deliver, not in, please drive to our depot in the Outer Hebrides to pick it up yourself"

Our receptionists at my work place are terrible.

- Hi reception
+ Hi can I speak to Dave
- Is that David Johnson in finance who looks after XYZ, black long hair, 40s and drives a BMW?
+ Yes that's right
etc

just hang up... thats what i do to every phone call that wants information... someone pretended to be a member of my family once... they should have known terry was my grandad and not a young woman.. stupid idiots

Other people on my team have had a couple of these at work.. for an unexpected delivery. After one of them gave my name I got a call not so long after from a 'headhunter' in London, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was related..

Nothing happened that I'm aware of. No Parcel, and no further calls. I did let my colleagues know that I'd given out their names, but they weren't bothered by it.

Won't fall for that one again!

We had the same last week, saying they wanted to deliver on tuesday, the guy who it was *for* gave my name as he was on leave this week. I assumed it was a recruiter as we've had them telling the switchboard they're couriers before to get through to us.
I just don't get it, why would you give any credence to a recruiter who's lied their way through to speaking to you, seems such a bizarre tactic
