I've just finished recording a new song I've called Out of the Blue. I think it's the best song I've written thus far, and I'd like to know what you good people think of it.

Enough said, here it is:

OUT OF THE BLUE

Thanks.

Maybe you need to work on your singing a bit - its quite out of tune.. Pretty standard 'rock' song, however I can see a bit of melody in there, keep at it.:)

sounds a lot like ash to me, which is a good thing. Just needs a bit more ooomph at the start and the bridge after the verse. I dunno, I think the bass needs more depth or something. But yeah overall, I like it. Just needs a bit more tewaking on effects to level it up a bit!

From a quick listen:
Ditch any bass effects and maybe try chords (and when you mix it down kill the mid/top frequencies). The bass is horrible.
More stereo panning throughout.
You might want to find a different singer. And ditch the harmonies or at least go an octave +/- for them. Also the first verse is OK, you should try and stick to that kind of thing for the length of the song.
The drums sound pretty bad, try to make them sound a little more natural (whilst programming) and try a bit of reverb (maybe a tiny bit of chorus) and pan the kit.
The guitars I don't really mind the sound of. What you're playing isn't my thing and sometimes it clashes with the vocals.

I'd do all of that first, then find myself some exciter goodness and liven it all up a bit.

And 1:55 all the way through to 2:15 needs to go completely.

Edit: kinda sounds like i'm being negative or critical, I don't mean to, I like the beginning of the song, and i'm just telling you what I'd do.

Hate the drums, sounds like a badly mixed, badly programmed SR16. Your voice is ok, guitar needs tightening up, other than that nothing that can't be salvaged with a decent bit of mixing.

Thanks for listening. Didn't realise there was another song called Out of the Blue, but it's not going to kill anyone :p

Accepted on the drums front, not sure how much better I can make them sound with just programmed drums, has anyone got any tips?

No effects on the bass but I will try changing the EQ to cut off mid/high.

Cheers

What are you using for the drum patterns? Software or hardware?

Sometimes shifting the drums slightly out of quantisation can give a more real feel, as can a subtle amount of "swing" effect :) . Play with dynamics too.
