I am still using a Dell 3007 which has been utterly fantastic. It was £1k in it's it's day but was worth every penny. Now I am thinking of permanently donating it to my son and getting a new one.

But as I last bought a monitor in 2007 I am very out of touch with what I should be looking for. It would be used for a mix of productivity and some gaming. So any advice would be appreciated.

I have a budget of around £700 (possibly more for the right monitor). What panel type (IPS etc) is recommended nowadays? Any particular manufacturers I should be looking at? I am leaning towards a 34 inch wide-screen if my budget would get a good one.

I have a Vega 64 so presumably Freesync would be advisable? A friend raves about the Alienware AW3418DW but this is GSync. Is there anything similar with Freesync? Or would it be worth considering GSync for the long term?

Thanks.
