Does anyone know if this is possible using a Giga 780g mobo that uses the Realtek HD audio driver.

Basically want to use HDMI for movies and SPDIF for Live TV and Music so I can listen in 24bit as opposed to 16 that HDMI is restricted too.

Unfortunately the sound control panel only allows one default playback device not both Digital (SPDIF) & HDMI so have to keep switching that's annoying

Thanks

It's part of the HDCP implementation that MS have done to 'protect content providers' aka, screw the consumer.

It worked in XP, it doesn't work in Vista or Windows 7 to the best of my knowledge.

I have the same problem but simpler I simply want the output to go through my headphones and speakers.

I usually play games through the speakers then later at night switch the speakers off and revert to headphones. This is easy in XP but in Win7 it always wants me to choose a "default" device and whichever I choose is the one that get's the sound. However I can't see why both can't have sound like XP.

I'm using the onboard sound from my ASUS P5QPro mobo.

I haven't installed the realtek drivers though.
