Output to VGA and HDMI from same card

I have a computer specced as sig in a bedroom at my house. It outputs to a VGA monitor from my 8800GT card, and to a set of 5.1 surround speakers from a X-Fi card sound card.

In the room next door I have a wall mounted 22" LCD panel TV. It has a HDMI input, I'd like to use the TV as a screen from the PC to watch films, play music etc. All I need to do id pop a HDMI cable through the wall. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard which will work through the wall for control.

Is there a graphics card out there that will allow me to output a signal to both the existing monitor and the HDMI input of the flat panel TV.

I know this will be a bit tricky as the monitor uses seperate sound and picture and the HDMI TV would be a combination input.

Any ideas or thoughts on this?

I could be wrong here, but i'm under the impression that any of the ati 48xx cards should be able to support this as they can output sound through the hdmi connection. The only downside being that you may have to use a program where you can specify an output sound device (winamp should do it).

So if i am right on the connection front and you will only be using one of the screens at any given time you can just set it up simply enough. Clone mode or extended would depend on what resolution your main display is running but either should work. One thing of note.. if you are using Vista its a bit more of a pain since the theatre mode wont work and you'll have to manually fullscreen the video on the tv.

Hope this helps a bit.

Well yout 8800GT has two DVI outputs. I take it you are using a VGA adapter for your current monitor. You will similarly need a HDMI adapter for the TV. Unfortunately the 8800GT will not output sound through the HDMI. Like the guy above stated, the current 4000 series ATI cards can output sound and image through HDMI.

To get sound through your TV, you will have to check out any audio inputs (3.5mm jack, SPDIF), then connect your PC sound output to one of those on your TV. Otherwise just use a set of speakers connected to your PC, downside you won't have volume control from your TV remote.

You will need to select cloned mode when hooking up both displays. The resolution will have the be the lowest common res both screens accept. You could extend your screen and use different resolutions if you really wanted.

If you buy one of the ATI 4000 cards, Vista will detect your TV and the HDMI sound output via the card. If you select this as your default sound, there will be no sound going through any speakers/headphones you have connected to your PC. As far as I'm aware anyway.
