Hi all,

As above, had an odd burning smell recently (a few months) occasionally when using the top oven of a double unit

Never could work out what it was (it is all clean, so nothing burning food-wise)

The other day the light in there stopped working (probably just the bulb), which today allowed me to notice that when the oven comes on to heat back up to temperature... the grill element (or at least part of it) was also glowing...

Is this normal?? I guess not... But what has caused it and would anyone happen to know a fix please?

It is linked to / following on from this...

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18634091

Which has pics and model number of the unit etc

To add to the above-linked post, no 'element' of any kind was found behind the casing of the oven (even after removing it completely from the wooden unit), just a tubular style thing which seemed to be a fan of some sort... So is it possible this is normal (and the smell is something else?)... See below edit

Thanks

EDIT: Only thing I can find slightly related is this, and it seems that for his/her specific oven it is normal... but I've never noticed it before with our oven... And Mum has recently mentioned a couple of things that were put in there have burnt quickly (as if they were being grilled)... This combined with the odd smell makes me think there is something wrong

I have a Zanussi double oven and had it 5 yrs - must admit I only use top for warming plates so I have just been and looked - The top oven is heated by grill elements but they didn't seem to glow red - turn it to grill and they did go red - One knob does three functions -first turn is oven - square symbol with two horizontal lines in it - then grill -square again with full teeth on top of square then half grill with half teeth.
The second knob set's temp.

Are you sure you are turning knob for oven and not grill - if we put grill on with door shut the element does come on and off when set temp setting is reached.

I would guess with mine that element will never glow red on oven for as you say it grills food.

Thanks for checking

Seems like ours may have developed a fault then (hence the smell as the grill is on with the door closed, as we want to be oven'ing but seems we're unintentionally grilling and maybe ovening at the same time because of this fault haha)

We have a very similar switch...without the half grill feature...
1 - OFF
2 - Same square symbol you describe with line at top and bottom for oven
3 - Same square symbol with full teeth on top for grill
4 - just turns the light on

Will have to do some more investigation as to what could have caused this :)
