i7 920 + GA-EX58-UDR3 + Corsair H50-1 + GEIL pc3-10660 (DDR3-1333)
Hi guys
I'm trying to OC the above combination, hopefully to 4+Ghz but I just cant seem to get it to run much above 3Ghz.
I managed to OC the same chip to 4Ghz on a different board, an MSI X58M with no trouble, (well the north bridge got hot enough to cook on!) until I blew it by plugging in the wrong power lead (long story).
I've tried using the EasyTune utility and that just seems to crash the system every time and I've tried changing the settings in the bios directly.
So two questions:
The fan on the radiator is just a stock 120mm case fan, is this seriously inefficient and should I replace it with something more muscular?!

The NorthBridge has its own integrated heat sink which is attached to another heatsink next to the back panel. Is it safe, a good idea to replace these with a couple of dedicated passive NorthBridge coolers (Zaward TwinTowers?)

Thanks in advance

Richard

Hey I have the same board n chip, mine is clocked to 3.4. Bought the pre-build Titan Goliath.

Check out this thread. Same board n chip clocked to 3.8. As for 4 and above it prob is possible with the h50 but im not to experienced so not sure. I think it would require a board change for any higher. I hope to clock mine to 3.8 when the warranty runs out. But I'm also think of new boards for the far future and higher oc's.

Is it the i7 920 D0? or C0?

i have the same mobo/cpu and was hoping when i got a new cooler i would be able to hit the 4GHz but now im not so sure :( real eye opener this thead, cheers for the advance warning signs before i shell out on a H50

You probably can hit 4ghz or higher, im not sure.My cooler isnt really the best so I cant compare. The main reason i'm lookin for a different board in the future is cause I will also want to crossfire my 4890 which will prove very hard on the UD3R, due to how close the pci-e slots are.

As for me, Im not going to attempt to clock my i7 any higher than 3.8 with my Nero cooler. H50 shld be more than sufficient tho.

i did have to play with the ram setting a bit to make it stable
