I have an early revision EVGA 680i, i cant however seem to get it over 300fsb regardless of volts or what cooling i use, im also using high quality corsair well within its limits.

now im thinking of getting a new mobo to allow me to greater speeds, which one? i have a Q6600 currently at 2.67ghz, cant get higher stable using H20.

My Q6600 won't clock on my 680i SLI either, I think it's just a flaw in the 680i series as a whole that a number of them won't clock quads. I can get my Q6600 stable at about 2.8GHz before it craps out on me.

If you want alternative options, I've just ordered the Abit IP35 Pro, which I hear is a fantastic board for overclocking quads. If you want to go even cheaper then I've also heard nothing but good things about the Gigabyte P35 DS3R and the Asus P5K series (though the Deluxe will cost you.)

Out of curiosity, did you ever run a non-quad in that board? My Duo E6300 went all the way to 3.5GHz stable (and higher unstable), but this quad doesn't seem to want to clock in the slightest.

Edit: I forgot to mention, my board is one of the new revision (D00 printed on the board.)

yes, i had an E6700 that did 3.6ghz in the board, thing is, i have seen people getting whopping big overclocks out of these quads, i refuse to believe its the chip or the ram.

Well my Abit IP35 Pro comes within the next few hours, so I can let you know if it clocks any higher than my 680i if you like. Knowing me I'll be making an attempt as soon as I get the thing out of the box.

And once I get to grips with the Abit BIOS of course, only used to the ones Asus, Gigabyte and Nvidia use. :D

I can run my Abit IN9-32X MAX (nForce 680i) with a B3 Q6600 at 3ghz (333x9) no problem at all. I have also tried booting at 400x7, but that was a no go. However it may have been because I am using 4x1gb RAM.

Have not tried any higher due to temps.

Take a look over at Abit Forums to see how others are getting on. Plenty over there at 3ghz and beyond.

That was on my A1 680i. Some are good quad clockers some are not.

HT links both 4x
Spp 1.4
MCP 1.5
SPP-MCP - 1.55

Keep a close eye on temps as the 680i gets VERY hot (both NB+SB was watercooled on mine).

I don't have that board anymore nor that chip. Sold both and bought a blitz with a G0 q6600.

There are some on XS that have hit 4ghz on a q6600 with a 680i so it could be a chip limitation.
