Owncloud vs Onedrive

ATM i currently use Onedrive with 1TB of space. I'd like to run my own Owncloud VPS, 100GB SSD, from bhost.net (too have better control of my data and as they are very cheap). Are there many disadvantages? I was thinking Onedrive might have better network connectivity and redundancy. Also I dont have broadband in my area so upload GBs will be very slow.

Or i could bring up a Owncloud server at home and connect that somehow to my storage?

BHost VPS will be fine, their infrastructure is pretty resilient and it is 1gbps line so it should easily top out your home connection in terms of download and upload speed.
