P4 519 - reviews?

Trying to find some reviews of this wierd CPU!

Its 3.06GHz / 533MHz bus / 1Mb cache....seems like a cut down Prescott of some description.

I might be building a PC for the sister in law and shes been looking at a PC powered by this CPU, wondering if its any good for general use, MP3 encoding and some video editing (shes just bought a digital camcorder). Think i'd prefer the Athlon 3200+ over this really for her budget (£600-650)...

Problem is the spec needs to include everything (inc 17" TFT) so dual core is well out of the equation.
I'm wondering whether a A64 3200+ is gonna be a better bet than a P4 630 cus its faster in MP3 encoding but slower in video editing/encoding plus by the time you've added on a P4 mobo with Firewire and a video card its a lot more cash. With the A64 i can use the Asus A8N-VM which has Firewire and onboard GFX (shes not doing any gaming) all for just over £60....cant see a P4 mobo with all this on for a decent price?

I've been looking on Toms Hardware for performance comparisons with the P4 519 and A64 3200+ but obviously the P4 519 isnt there....would a P4 520 be close enough speed wise to a 519 to warrant compaing the A64 3200+ with this?

if editing get the 630 and an asrock or asus mobo and a firewire card for six quid!
The p4's are better in editing andthe 630 has HT.

She wont just be doing video encoding though, MP3 encoding will be a large part and the A64 is better for that....swings and roundabouts really!
Comparing a 630 on an i925x board to a A64 3200+ on the NF4 board the 630 aint an awful lot faster...well from Toms tests anyway. Plus the board above is 865 chipset so no doubt is slower than the 925x?

The hyper threading of the p4 is enough to warrant the p4 over the a64 in this case.Shes not playing games so the p4 is the way to go.

The benchmarks beg to differ though?

Granted the 630 is 5secs faster over 3+mins over the 3200+ venice...so what? the A64 is better in MP3 encoding and most other things including some of the multi tasking benchmarks. HT is a bit of a marketing ploy in my book, its still a single core after all.

About the board the one i gave was an example there are loads:

Aye not bad prices at all....though i tend to avoid Asrock and bargain basement bits personally....its just me!

if she is doing video editing she will be doing encoding as she will need to convert the dv files for authoring to dvd etc....

Yes some, not all the time and she'd probably be doing as much MP3 encoding really.

those will be faster at the stuff she wants to do than an a64 the hyperthreading will help with encoding enough to get it for that task.

Sorry after looking at benchmarks for the past few days i've got to disagree....hell this is a forum after all though!
