I have a P410 with 512MB cache and BBWC enabler. The BBWC is "failed" (won't hold a charge), and therefore the cache is disabled. There is no way that I can find to force the cache to be enabled (I've even tried via the command line). So... I have 3 options:
1) Buy a replacement battery. I think I can get one for £20-30, but who knows how old it will be, and how long it will last, and eventually I will be in the same situation again.
2) Buy a FBWC kit, which is a new 512MB card (with RAM + flash on it) plus a super-capacitor (instead of battery). The capacitor pretty much never fails, so should last for years to come. I can get this for £50.
3) Buy a 4-battery holder plus 4 NiMH AAA rechargeable batteries and solder the holder to the existing battery. This apparently works, but is pretty naff, and I suspect would make it hard to sell the P410 down the road (not that they are selling for huge amounts anyway). Costs £9.
What would you guys do? I'm really tempted to go for the FBWC route, just because it is the cleanest and hopefully most long term. It just also happens to be the most expensive route!
