A quick p4c800 deluxe question...

Just replacing my 2.4 (800fsb)p4 with a 3.4 northwood (800)p4. I have flashed the bios with rev1019 using Afudos 2.26. This processor should therefore be supported.

However it keeps turning itself off after 2-4 mins. I'm using the 2.4 stock cooler on the 3.4cpu but I don't think it is a temp issue cause the motherboard reports cpu temps are satisfactory.
Getting confused and annoyed cause this is delaying my STALKER gaming.

A lot of people on here wouldn't have experience with your specific motherboard which is why you mightn't be getting any replies.

What are your complete system specs?

regimentaldj:

I am using an Intel 3.2GHz Prescott on an Asus P4C800 motherboard with BIOS 1019 (which is different from the 1019 for the P4C800 Deluxe), for the last 12 months without any problems.

it keeps turning itself off after 2-4 mins
Does the whole computer simply power off?

In your Power options in Control Panel, is everything setup correctly? :)

Yeah power settings are all fine.

other specs:
x4 256 ddr400
ati 256 ax800xt
sata 320g HD and IDE 80g HD

A few changes and it took a little longer to turn itself off. I have upped cpu volts to 1.6v and changed Dram idle timer to infinite. And Dram refresh to 7.8usec.

To be fair I have no idea what I'm doing just reading random bits of stuff from old forum posts and giving them a go

edit: those settings made no difference, but had it going for four hours + stressed it ...now back to turning off in first few mins

I've had the exact same mainboard some time ago, never a prob with it with over 10 cpu's on it (northwoods and scotts and extreme editions), what kind of psu do you have, have you tried older bios and have you tried resetting to defaults?

Also are you sure its an undamaged cpu, i've had a (socket 775 though) p4 wich was instable causing freezes/reboots on the tiniest bit of stressing (even wmp), i knew it was the cpu as i've bought 4 of the same and one of the 4 was that way, try testing the cpu on a different socket 478 board.

Northwood or PrescHott, I'm guessing a PSU or possibly a heat issue. Remove 2 sticks of memory and remove every piece of non essential hardware to test. Also, with 4 DIMMs you should be actively cooling the NB.

Nah the northbridge if i renember correctly is prettty cool, did 266 fsb at stock volts too, had 4x512 mb and a 3 ghz scott @ 3.9 ghz for almost half a year on that mobo, never had any prbolems with it, northbridhge was sub 30 always, cracking boards imo.

I have used about 5-7 of these boards over the years and still have 2 running. Every one of them improved the OC and stability with a 40mm fan on the NB. In general, it's just good practice to cool it with 4 DIMMs. But, that may or may not help in this case. And, you are correct, I think they are the best MOBOs I have ever owned.

Think its my PSU guys. Got it in the folks pc running fine on an Abit-AI7. Its a Hyper-X if i recall and should be sufficient Watts for the system, infact the folks pc has a 400W generic psu and its working fine...they might be keeping the CPU!
Thanks for all suggestions btw
