I had an issue which I posted a while back with my RAM running extremely hot. Like, 70 degrees or something. This is not right. I have 4x1GB sticks GSkill ram in there. All was well breifly apart from the very hot temperature. I'm running everything (now) at stock speeds.
One of the pairs of sticks was faulty and started failing memory checking and I got it RMAed with GSkill. I put the replacement RAM in and started the computer, and it wouldn't post or beep - just all the fans come on, and the fan on the 8800GTX comes on full wack, and no video or anything. I restart, and it boots fine and i'm away for a bit. Now it won't boot every time. If I take the replacement RAM out (leaving just 2x1GB) it boots fine.

I must have a dodgy motherboard, correct?

TIA

Give the vdimm a nudge. Four sticks sometimes need a touch more power.

Have you Memtest'ed both pairs?

 Are you sure? How do you know this?
As Cob a little higher Vdimm maybe necessary.
I recommend to improve the heat transfer inside your case adding more fans.

i touched the RAM - its very hot - as hot as the graphics card.
There's plenty of air flow in the case believe me :) besides even in a no-air situation you wouldn't expect that heat, surely.

ok i removed the good pair of sticks (having memory tested them - all fine) and replaced with the new sticks. Mem test got 31% in and then crashed. Restarting the machine gave no video again.

So - have I got faulty, new ram? Or is my motherboard doing bad things to innocent sticks?

ok i've also increased the voltages (and done some general overclocking) and the new ram still behaves identically (and temperatures on the working stuff are still very high)

Take the bad sticks out if works fine then get the crap 2 sent back on warrenty and get new ones *they somtimes give you the new model under warrenty too which be cool)
