Lo all,

Just got my new rig sorted. All is working fine, however, the POST seems to take a long time. It will stay on the P5B Deluxe splash screen for about 20 seconds.

Also, I was trying to go into BIOS to change the memory timings, and I hit the del key as it says, and it doesnt seem to do anything. COuld this be to do with using a USB keyboard?

It's probably detecting your drives during that time - you can press tab to watch the process. Mine takes an age there too (but then I have 8 drives ;)) 'course tab might not work in your case - sounds like the usb keyboard might be to blame for the del key not working - got any usb to ps/2 adaptors? There may be a setting in the BIOS to enable USB keyboard support...
 
Thanks, after trying again, I've noticed that it hangs for a long time. Then, as soon as the keyboard lights up it boots. I can get into BIOS by waiting for the keyboard to initialise.

However the boot time is still long. It seems to be taking a long time to initialise the USB devices. Anything I can do to fix this?
 
Sorry mate, no idea on that one. Someone else may be able to help you, but apart from detecting the drives, everything else is whippy-quick in mine.
 
Quick boot enabled ?

look in

Boot > Boot settings Configurations > Quick Boot [Enabled / Disabled]


behind that splash screen it may well be testing ram like the good old days when you could watch your 16meg test 4 times in about 5 seconds :)

I have a g15 and a g7 charger/receiver (both usb) connected to a kvm cable, which i plugged into a spare usb socket, and it works fine. I tap the del key, and it works. ;)
 
Thanks for the help guys, it appears to have fixed itself. It could be that I was pressing the Del key before my keyboard had initialised, causing the USB not to work immediately.

Anyway, I can now access BIOS and it boots up really quickly.
