One of my mates recently built a new rig using a P5B Deluxe/WiFi motherboard. Initially he had 2gb of Geil memory (he was pleased when I pointed him to the offer at OCUK) and all has been excellent for a couple of weeks.

He's just purchased another 2gb and it arrived this morning. With all 4 slots full (4 * 1gb) he can get it to post but as soon the as the screen goes black and is about to start loading windows a (pretty much random) error message appears.

He's tried the new ram on it's own and it works fine, as does the original ram.

Any idea's?

(I've got a 96P-DS3 so I'm at a loss as to what to advise him but I knew there was a lot of P5B owners on here)

Hi,

Bad news i,m afraid - been there done that, p5b won't work with all four slots poulated with the Geil. I had this same frustrating problem - ended up buying 4 x1 gb of the crucial ballistix instead - now absolutely fine.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I would try to exchange the ram for ballistix.

I have had a P5B Wifi deluxe running with 4 x 1Gb Geil ULL PC6400 RAM with no issue.

I ran a e6600 overclocked to 3.1 Ghz with the RAM 1:1 with no problems.

Lucky you - mine would not have it at all. Does say on the Asus site that this ram is not supported in all four slots?????

Yea, I have 4 gigs running on my p5b dlx too. Did have some problems tho.

Haven't decided if it's geil or asus who are crap. It thinks it's the geil. Cheap and not too cheerful.

Hello everyone,

I'm the friend of Griff's who has the problem with running 4gb Geil RAM on the P5B (wifi).

I see some of you have got it working and some haven't, are the guys who have it working runing a 64bit OS?

My problem is when i put all 4 1gb sticks in, the PC boots then before windows it says checksum error and goes no further, if i put 3 sticks in it loads windows put then crashes with blue screen. I have taken all sticks and tried them in and they all work with only 2 being used.

Oh and to answer Deluxe1's question i had memory remap disabled.

My OS is vista 32bit, i had heard it doesn't like the 4gb, but there are so many conflicting stories i don't know where to turn other than selling the Geil and getting something else.

Can anyone give some sound advise?

If it works ok with either of the 2 sticks try putting up the voltage .1 as geil can be very fussy.

Or do as others have said and get some better ram.
