Hi all, thanks for reading. I'm a bit of a noob to pc building and overclocking but recently i put together my first build and now im starting to dabble with overclocks. So far only on the CPU but im a little worried about my CPU temps maybe you can help me out and give me some advice. The setup is as follows..
Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard, X6800 CPU, Scythe Ninja HS+120mm Scythe fan, 4GB Corsair 6400 CAS3, raptor and caviar HDD's, 2 more 120mm fans in case (one as inlet and one as exhaust inline with the rear of the ninja) + 2 80mm exhausts, Hiper 580W modular PSU and ATI x1900xt-x

so stock GHz on this cpu is 2.93 and the idling temp is about 43c the following images show how the temp changes as im clocking it upwards (Bus speed changes only)
@3200MHz

@3300MHz

@3344MHz

@3400MHz

@3497MHz

I dont really know much about the temperatures and my friend told me i should post here to get some advice. So can you all let me know if what im doing is right or not? are these temps way off the chart? im worried i may not have seated the ninja properly or have too much arctic silver on there. Ive also heard that its sometimes better to lower the multi and raise the bus speed as this will help the ram to run faster too (my ram is under rated timings according to CPU-Z).

Thanks to anyone who reads and replies.

hi,

only words of advice i can give is

1)use the bios to overclock (unclear whether you are using ai booster or bios)
2)test temperatures while under load (using orthos prime)
3)the fsb needs to be at 400mhz for your ram to be at stock mhz as its ddr2 800, so when your fsb is 400 your ram will be at its stock settings.

Hi Tom thanks for replying.

1)use the bios to overclock (unclear whether you are using ai booster or bios)
I was using AI booster as i couldnt find where to unlock the settings in bios untill i recently blindly found the setting so i can use bios now
2)test temperatures while under load (using orthos prime)
Is that the same as prime95? i ran prime95 for around an hour at 3.2GHz and temp didnt go above 61c
3)the fsb needs to be at 400mhz for your ram to be at stock mhz as its ddr2 800, so when your fsb is 400 your ram will be at its stock settings.
i think i understand that part now

thanks again.

prime 95 will only test one core (or spread the load across both). whereas orthos prime will test both cores, thus 100% cpu load.

orthos prime is on the same page as sp2004 prime. easily found via google.
