Hi all,

Got a bit of a weird problem going on ATM. I just bought a new PC for Christmas and decided to give my old (see specs below) to a relative:
  • Q6600 (was at 3.6Ghz, did reset to defaults though, see below)
  • Corsair Dominator PC2-8500 (4x1GB sticks)
  • Asus P5K Premium
  • OCZ StealthXStream 600W
  • Asus ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB

Got a problem I've never experienced with a computer in my life. I'll press the power button from cold boot, and as with many P35 chipset mobos, it'll double POST. Except it doesn't stop there. Fans spin up for 0.5 seconds, power off, wait 3 seconds, repeat. Indefinitely. I have no idea what's going on. After about 40 minutes of this I pulled the CMOS battery out for about 10 minutes, pushed it back in, same issue for about an hour before it FINALLY booted. I got an error along the lines of:
CMOS read error. Press F1 to continue, F2 to load setup defaults

So I reset the BIOS to defaults then it booted fine there after (warm boots); however, cold boots have become an issue once again and I'm completely stumped as to what it might be.

Any suggestions welcome! Thanks.

I can't get into BIOS so it's impossible to flash :/ either way I've found the cause: if I remove the CPU 8-pin, it will stop the constant POSTing but now it just won't post at all (probably because there's no CPU power connected). Now if I use my other PSU for Mobo and CPU power... it boots fine :( what does this mean for my PSU? Is it bust? It was working fine for 2 years and then suddenly it just doesn't boot?

Thanks!
