Finished build based on P5W DH, with 4GB RAM, Core2 Duo 6700. Everything seems to work OK, but the length of time to POST seems excessive - it sits at the POST display for a good 40s before showing RAID config and then booting. The BIOS param from 'quick boot' is enabled - any views on whether this POST tme is 'normal'

40 seconds doesn't sound normal to me, can you press TAB while logo is displayed to see the POST messages? Then you might be able see what the hold up is ;)

ok,

depends on what bios your using, 1101 fixes the post times as far as i am aware, mine no longer takes an age.

Also i the bios, you need to set ide detect time to 0, it defaults to 35secs.

Think its under the first menu under sata settings, not sure, am at work at the moment.

Hope that helps anyways

:D

I'll check BIOS version when I get home - it will be as supplied by O/C which I'mm sure will be earlier than 1101, but I thought a few posters had issued with 1101? I have reduced IDE timeout from the standard 35 but not to zero - I'll try that.

Yes, pressing TAB shows the POST messages - nothing abnormal there.

it is on the asus site. click on the tabs at the top, cannot remember the exact one lol. at work at the moment, but i promise you 1101 is on there.

A little off topic but on the same subject along with the mobo:

My Asus is arriving soon and as soon as i receive it, i'll obviously be flashing it to the latest bios.

As i've never used an Intel set-up apart from my old Celly Laptop (always been on AMD), is it possible flashing the bios through an updater in windows, or do i have to have a boot-up floppy and flash it through dos?

I'm looking on support.asus.com. Have searched for "P5W DH Deluxe" and the latest BIOS that comes up is 0801 ???

Hmm weird, at the time of posting it it was there but not now. If the page is appearing and disappearing it could be that they are simply having problems or doing maintenance.

Odd?
I went straight the asus site, looked up the bios for this model and there it was, 1101, listed right above 0701 which my pc is running now.

This is strange because my mate daz went onto the same site when i owned another asus board (the p5d) and he couldnt see the latest bios issues that I plain had infront of me.

Very strange goings on!

Is it right what i've been reading that the p5w wont post at all with a conroe until the bios is updated? I ask as the one i bought (not OCuK) didnt list core duos in the compatability list. Gonna be a bit of a bugger if it turns out its the older revision i bought as i certainly dont have any other 775 celerons to be able to even get into the bios to flash it :p

Guess it depends....mine arrived a couple of days ago (from non-OcUK source :( ) and had BIOS 0701 - my 6300 dropped right in fine......

Can i ask if on the description of the board on the place you bought it listed conroes as being compatable? The fact that mine didnt is making me think i'll prolly have to buy a cheap celeron to get it going, i've asked the seller for the Rev. number of the board in case i can find out which bios it has that way but not heard back yet. You didnt by any chance 'buy now' on on an auction site? Long shot but its worth asking :p

I think the first initial batch of boards claimed (or at least the site claimed) to support the conroe chips. This was revised on the site with a passage asking customers to contact ASUS for a bios update because of an issue with chips not working on early bios revisions.

There are other threads I've read on this forum confirming this, even when ASUS claimed that certain chips would work on the board, they clearly would not post at all on older bios versions. On first try it seems a lot of the boards shipped with bios' earlier than 0701 had serious issues in picking up some of the chips, especially the extreme editition chips.

The board I bought the other day shipped with 0701 and my E6600 went straight in and worked fine, my mate who bought an E6700 however had to mail off for such a bios update.
