Hi guys,

Been off the forums for ages. I have it in mind to upgrade my system to Intel and use the P5WDG2 WS Professional board for the PCI-X with my SCSI 39320 card.

I like the look of the OCZ watercooled RAM - but I wonder whether 4 sticks will give me the best performance.
I read the manual for the small print - and there do seem to be some caveats in regard to 4 Dimms.
I may just go with the 2Gb although I do plan to use x64 Vista. I also do a lot of video and phjoto work.

Anyone suggest the best RAM options - I am sure the fact that I have only half followed the newer RAM speeds will mean many are in a better position to judge the current offerings. I like Corsair as a rule.

Thanks for any comments.

Tyler Durden:

I have the Asus P5WDG2 WS Pro with the E6600 @3.2GHz (stable @3.4GHz as well), with 4 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix 6400, with timings 3-3-3-6 @2.2v, in a Vista 64bit system, which sees all 4GBs of Ram.

Getting 2 x 2GBs instead of 4 x 1GB would be a slightly better option, simply because there will be less strain on the memory controller, and a possible higher O/C.

Going from 2 x 1 to 4 x 1 sticks of Ram presented no problem, neither did I have to change any settings in BIOS, it gave an improvement in performance as well.

Mushin make some very good 4GB (2 x 2GB) kits.

I am also using the PCI-X slot with the Areca ARC1110 SATAII RAID controller, which performs well.

The Asus P5K WS also has a PCI-X slot. :)
